So my mom's 2001 Saturn SL2 was having starting issues. So I drove it to O'Reilly and sure enough the alternator is weak. As I drive it to the shop the power steering pully explodes and snapped the belt. Got a lil warm but didn't hurt it. While I was changing the alternator and ps pump I damaged the filter so here's a c&p. Filter was only used for 1k. Enjoy!!!
PS, for the last 2 years this car had a squeak to it that would come and go. I told her eventually it would show its self.

While you are a good son to take care of your mothers car, a 2001 gm anything is at the time of life when they become money-pits with one breakdown after another and another and another. Usually at that age you are much smarter to ditch it and get something newer. The payments on a newer vehicle will actually be less than what you will be throwing into that vehicle to keep it on the road.

Filter looks quite good...

You do a very good job of your cut and post filters on here.

Maybe a good idea to change the power steering fluid at this time.

I changed the pump as well. The car had a belt squeak for about 2 years and I told her it would show its self one day. When you turn the pump bu hand, there's a rough spot. So I flushed the lines, and installed new pump and pully as well as alternator. New pump has no rough spot and no more squeak.

There's two way to think about that. My mom does not make alot of money. I bought this car for $400 bucks with a knocking engine. Car was clean inside and out and everything worked. I rebuilt the engine. New crank and pistons and number one connecting rod. It was bent. Cost about 1k for the engine. Also did breaks, New ac compressor which I got on accident. Supposed to be just the clutch but the guy sent a whole compressor with clutch. New tires, ignition modual, wires, spark plugs, all new hoses, trans fluid/filter change, motor/trans mounts. It all cost around $2200. This was the only time it broke down in 3 years, luckily it did it on me and I wasn't far from shop. I know a lil old Saturn isn't worth that much but its what she can afford. I picked it cause parts are cheap, easy to work on and maintain, and good gas milage. Average about 30mpg. Now I own a 2018 Taurus that I got new and its going to be around 33k after its paid for. That Saturn will never ever cost my mom that much. Since most things are new on it shouldn't be breaking down much. If it does I'll fix it and do it way cheaper than some mechanic will charge her.

Realizing it's 1k fci, still looks pretty darn good for jobber tier filter, like it could easily get ~5k. And it uses a dome end coil spring bypass, no combo valve. A plus imo.

Thanks for c&p.

One more thing to add is the case on this filter is very thick and was hard to crack. A purolator is much easier to cut open. Lol
