Prospective buyer opens radiator cap---HOT!

OK--so I'm selling my Explorer Sport on a local classified site. An asian guy who speaks very little english shows up with his wife to look at the truck. He takes it out for about 10 min and comes back and says that it 'sound funny'. He wants to take a look under the hood, which he can't figure out how to open. After I open the hood for him, he says he wants to check the oil and reaches for the nearest dipstick, which is the ATF dipstick. After I point that out, he reaches for the radiator cap and before I can tell him that he might not want to do that---he opens it up and it just starts spewing everywhere. Horrible mess in the engine bay and all over the driveway. I hate selling vehicles to the general public.

Yeah, I've already weeded a couple people out over the phone yesterday. I'm looking to find someone who values all the preventative maintenance I've done on it---like a BITOG'er. I see in your sig that you have an RX7. I've had 3 over the years ranging from a 81 to an 84. Fabulous vehicles--but they just love to oversteer when it's wet don't they! I bought the 84 RX new and put a turbo on it. Funnest vehicle ever. I also had an RX3 (1973). Very unique car that I am still kicking myself that I sold it.

+1, and the clean up of the driveway, and cause a potential cooling system problem down the road. Temperature or pressure shocks are never good.

I wouldn't sell it to him--I told him it probably wasn't the vehicle for him and sent him on his way. I couldn't get him out of there fast enough. I wanted to get the driveway cleaned off-----!

I'd be pretty peeved if someone cracked the cap on my century-- ya gotta open two air bleed valves on the motor after you do that to burp all the air bubbles out.

Most wierdos that come look at my cars either don't open the hood or open it and are satisfied there's an engine underneath. They fake they know what they're looking at.

The ones that test drive drive like grandmas, not stressing anything.

They do that in front of my shop every day. I'm suprized that nobody has been serously burned.

They pull up, turn the car off, open the hood and before I can get there they take the radiator cap off and blow coolant all over my driveway.
