ProSelect out, Nascar in

Recently it was the first time I used the NAPA Proselect filters on both my cars. Immediately it was evident that the filter was causing the oil light to stay 'ON' longer on startup.

On many other filters I have tried on the accord especially the light goes OFF almost instantly, but with the Proselects it was staying on for a good half or full second.

Last night I changed the filters on both the cars to the NAPA Nascar and the oil light behaviour is back to normal(goes off instantly).

Still not sure what causes this but I may contact NAPA about it.

A couple of other things I observed/experienced with the new(nascar) filter were that starts were quieter and just overall it seems to run quieter/smoother.

Another thing is that although the car had been sitting for about 3 hours before I started removing the filter, no old oil started pouring out as I started to unscrew the filter, which normally does. Some oil trickled out of the old filter after it was lying on its side for a while.

Anyway, thought I'd just post my experience with these filters.

huh, maybe a FULL second? are you sure it wasn't maybe a second and a quarter? or even 3/4 of a second?
sorry, I just can't understand the time spread between 'almost instantly' and a 'good half second'.

since your icon says you're 'sick' today, maybe you should just take it easy and let those medications work on you. It's not doing anyone any good for you to be out here like this.

and if you're still trying hard to be a pita then please go hijack someone else's thread.

anyone with a little bit common sense would be able to see that I was trying to give an idea about the time it took before and after. Obviously I did not sit there measuring the time in a laboratory controlled environment!

I don't know how else to explain 'instantly'. Instantly is the instant the engine fires up.

But the point is not how many seconds, the point is that there is a reasonable difference between this and any other filter(purolator, wix, oem,etc..) I have tried on the same car. And the difference according to me is enough to cause concern. and if you cannot understand this much then you should maybe just keep out of this thread.

you post observations in a public forum, you'll get comments, some positive, some negative, some confused. maybe I posted because I found your post humorous, maybe I don't 'get' your concern.
I changed the icon to 'sick' because I got tired of the default one, FWIW.
and, if you can't just ignore off-the-cuff comments, maybe you shouldn't post. considering no one else contributed to your precious post, looks like they chose to ignore it as well.
at least you've got me!

uh..actually it should be the other way around - you should not be making 'off-the-cuff' comments and maybe if you can't resist, members like you should stay away from public forums.

So basically your best argument is that you WILL make comments like these and everybody should just tolerate and ignore you, right ?

Obviously when trolls like you ruin threads why would anyone bother posting ?
And No Thank You, I'd prefer no response to response like yours.

I experienced extreme cold start noise with a ProSelect on a 3.4L GM V6( #21040 )that did NOT have it before. Swapped it back to an AC Delco and noise vanished immediately. Bad ADV???

I used to work at Napa selling parts and used the Silver line often( replaced by ProSelect ). I was not impressed with the PS on the 3.4L I can say that.

My 2005 Ford Duratec, running 5W20, is sensitive to ADBV. It has a computer readout that has flashed "oil level low" for about a second when I ran a Purolator PremPlus.

(Lots of oil drains after the filter is removed.)

I was only using this filter b/c I got it for $0.01 at Pepboys.

Now I'll only use filters with silicon ADBV. You could consider Napa Gold for this feature.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Depending on how it goes with the Nascar, the only other viable options I see are Napa/WIX Gold or PureOne.

anyone have any officially published Single Pass Efficiency ratings for Napa Nascar and Gold ?

I'll cut a ProSelect open and post pics so we can compare with a Napa Gold/Wix of the same fitment. I'll also measure the surface area of the filter medium. It may take a while (for me to find the time) so be patient.

Maybe I'll also open up a NASCAR, too.

I've cut open used ProSelects before, I wasn't really impressed. They've always worked fine for me though, I've used a bunch of them on various cars I maintain.

Honestly I was very impressed when I cut a proselect open. While the ADBV and filter are made of cheaper materials, the rest of the filter (bypass valve, center tube, can, media caps, base plate) were all very impressive for a $2.50 price tag.

I have run proselect on my wife's old '94 Camry for a few years now with no issues, but I stick with 3-4K OCI's. If I went over 5K, I would spring for NAPA gold or Toyota (Denso)which I run on my Tacoma.
