Prorun Lawn Tractors and outdoor power equipment

A Prorun Lawn Tractor showed up at a Home Depot in Canada. Price is in Canadian Dollars. Headquarters is in North Carolina and they are manufactured in China as I understand. Any experience with them? The also have a full line of gas and electric OPE. China bangers unite!

It seems that their U.S. headquarters presence is only about 2 to 3 years old, so you have to accept the risk of future parts availability if they go belly up. @ $2648 it's somewhat a disposable commodity, so not a huge risk. I imagine the box store John Deere mowers have a huge China component makeup also.

Looks similar to a Troybilt pony with a heel operated reverse pedal and stamped deck. Built to a price point, then throw it away after 5 years or so.

At least it's not called woodong or something special. I can live with Prorun. Looks to me that it could last 5-8 years for a smaller lot but certainly not even a midgrade mower but perhaps that's not what everyone needs. Is it a single cylinder? Hour meter? How is the warranty or parts sources? I assume you don't know much & is why you're asking (same here). Hydro & electric PTO it seems. Some say that my Craftsman is a box store mower but it's served me well for 12 years now. I've had to rebuild the mowing deck on it once & another spindle broke not too long ago. If one is willing to do stuff like that maybe they can limp it along.

Just browsing the rona website in Canada and a 19 hp Prorun comes up supposedly a Briggs engine.
3 year residential warranty ! covering what ?

$2k can catch you a good, usable machine on the used market and another $500-1k in maintenance should cover just about everything it might need.

I'd rather have a solid 10-20 year old machine than a brand new rattle-can that treats me like garbage. Ick!

Ya ! was on home hardware site just now looks like the benchmark tractors are made by Prorun reviews are not encouraging to say the least.

Harbor Freight has shown with the Predator line that under proper supervision, China can turn out some decent quality engines. The challenge here is determining if this company has similar success.

That thing looks like hitting a small hole in the yard would turn it into a pretzel.

Piss poor design on the blade spindles they use wood ruff keys to hold cast aluminum blade adapters on. Parts are hard to get. Deck shells are thin.
