Properties of Motor Oil Spreadsheet

Has anyone done a Properties of Motor Oil in a spreadsheet? I think and know it would be great that we have this here to use for informational purposes. Rather then having each BITOGer having to visit the oil manufacture website, download the specs and then read
/post it. Having all the details in one spot would be awesome.

Good, it is settled.

That said I would need a few that want to help keep it active and up-to-date. A few?...ok I am thinking a small committee of BITOGERS for all the oil that is out there.

A nice concept, but other than certifications, cst @ 40/100 and pour point, there's not much consistency in what manufacturers publish. And then there's Castrol, which used to give a simple "OK" for even basic specs.

Many don't show some of the more interesting bits, like Noack and low temperature viscosity, making this a frustrating exercise. Plus with the number of manufacturers * number of viscosities * number of product lines it would be a very spreadsheet.

Yup. From that standpoint, the PQIA list based on actual test results is more useful, alas, PQIA only tests certain grades, so their list isn't very comprehensive.

Yes PQIA is great but even that is limited (no HTHSV, MRV).
Next would be VOA's but again that has limited info such as no HTHSV and usually no KV40.

Back when Stinky Peterson was feeding us huge gobs of information, I started a spreadsheet, but found things were changing too regularly to be able to really keep up with it.

If you do do one, make a blending page so that you can see how much moly/Zn/P etc. a mix would have...that's fun brain stuff.

Any chance you can update that into a Google Docs spreadsheet and make it so that others can edit? If so then we can crowd sources the site and everyone can add stuff for oils. We could even add links to UOA/important threads and other things about the about each oil weight.

I already made the Google Docs spreadsheet for this, go back to page 1 post #4

That's what I had in mind, make this into a similar "Post your latest oil change" thread. Also one point with this is spreadshet that it can help show how one oil is "heavy" such as German Castrol even though it is a 0w30 and not 0w-40, and Pennzoil Platinum is a "thin" oil.

Besides RamFan, For anyone that would like to help, post here in the thread and then send me a massage with your email and I will reply back so that you can get login credentials.

I am thinking about 10 PoMOs (Properties of Motor Oil spreadsheet) helpers besides myself, so that it stays updated regularly since there is a lot of data constantly being posted/changing. Also to limit the number to avoid the possibility of it becoming like a "hot topic" on Wikipedia that gets vandalized.
