Proper engine & transmission mount operation?

So, taken from the recent Honda vibration thread, I've had symptoms and some observations I'd like some feedback on.

The rear engine mount on my Civic moves while revving in 'N' at idle, about 1" or so rocking. I've experienced some 'clunk like' rocking after shifting gears progressively over the last year, also when accelerating harder or when coming off the throttle there seems to be some excessive rocking. This may explain the 'wabble' at hot idle, perhaps? (an occasional idle issue that's probably related to IACV or other matters)

The side upper mounts move 'slightly' but seem fine. Of course, I've heard it's best to observe mount function in a manual/stick by accelerating in 1st gear with the park brake applied.

How are the mounts supposed to function on this vehicle? I believe there are 5 mounts total(2 tranny side and 3 engine; including rear near main firewall).

Thanks for any feedback.

there is 5, one rear near the firewall, one lower drivers side mount, one upper drivers side mount, and one passenger side lower and upper mount.

you have to move the inner fender liner that covers the transmission/engine from getting splashed to reach the lower mounts.

By far the weakest mount in any 92-00 civic is the drivers side upper mount under the cruise control, it is the first to go, then the added stress on the other mounts slowly ruins the rest of them.

In general they all function together to limit the movement of the engine while still maintaining a certain level of comfort in the cabin which comes at a price in these econoboxes, the lifespan is short.

I had the clunk like rocking you describe, I found the upper and lower driver and lower passenger mounts broken on my car, I took one out at a time and filled them with window weld and let them dry a week then reinstalled until I had them all done, redneck solid engine mounts

^I heard that just the other night from one of my BILs, regarding the window weld.

The problem is it's my only car. I can get a free diagnosis at a shop to inspect the mounts if I agree to have them replace the originals.

The OEM mounts are stupid expensive and will fail again, you are going to find it cheaper to buy a set of aftermarket poly mounts for 100 bucks or fill them with window weld one mount at a time, the other 4 can support the engine while you have one out, just drive a little nicer.

You should be able to look at the mounts and know if they are bad or not, cracking or stress tears means it is done for.

Any more opinions from someone else on the window weld? Just trying to gather more opinions, no disrespect to Brenden, a fellow Civic owner.

How long would it take one mount to cure, how long will the fix last if allowed to cure for the proper time/performed properly compared to replacing with OE mounts(or better if there are any better aftermarket??)?

ADDED: This is some window weld I found on Amazon, any other versions or 'top of the line' versions?

Well, if I do the window weld for the mounts, can't I just use it on the mounts while in place and wrap them in plastic to keep the stuff from running off before curing, then just not driving for 2-3 days?

My only other concern is whether or not this would make the mounts TOO stiff?

I suppose this goes back to my original question of proper engine mount operation.
