Propane gas line for generator

I need to run about 25' of 3/4" line for propane (low pressure).

I can use black iron or some of the new flex pipe. For 25' the cost is not a big issue with either choice.

I have never done any work with the flex line. It looks like you need to buy fittings made by the same company that made the flex line.

Do I still need a short length of rubber line to handle the vibration of the generator?

The flex line is junk!!! I had to bypass my leaking underground line so I used the flex line. You put a nut on then bend a clip around the flex line. After that you connect it to a coupler with a rubber oring. I have been fighting leaks for 2 weeks now.

My 16kw generator is plumbed with cast iron pipe. Be sure to use a proper regulator.

Many places in Texas DO NOT allow black pipe. I had to buy & bury a roll of 1/2" copper pipe for my generator. It flows enough to handle 20,000 Kw with PLENTY to spare!

I use a normal whatever regulator on the tank end... I forget the outlet pressure, but I doubt it's more than 1-2 psi.

The generator has a "Garretson KN" regulator on it.

I suspect the issue is with the installers' lack of skill rather than the flex line being "junk". When we had a new gas line run to the new firepit we put in a couple years ago, the "professional" installer had no issues with the flex line at all.

Is back iron pipe the same as cast iron?

I skimmed the NYS building code for natural and propane gas piping.

It mentioned iron, copper, corrogat SS. Also it looks like if I use iron pipe I need to worry about corrosion protection if it's exposed.

Are you burying the piping? Better check local building codes or inspector. I'd prefer to run black pipe and only use a short flexible pigtail at the generator. I'd paint the pipe if left exposed to elements.

I am buying the piping. I am thinking I will get black pipe and paint it yellow (proper color for gas pipe).

It will be run under my deck.

The only inspection will be by the propane company installing my larger tank.
