Rock Auto sells these filters for $2.03. Naturally, I was fascinated since this is so much cheaper than any alternative. I bought a couple.

The box says made in Korea. The filter itself says nothing about its place of origin. Strangely, this uber-cheap filter includes an o-ring for the cap.

The media looked a little fuzzy which might not show up in the pictures. This particular filter also looked like it had a little twist.

I decided against actually using these filters in my car, primarily due to the tight spacing of the inner pleats. It looked to me like this might lead to premature clogging and bypass.

Here are some pictures of a Pronto filter with an AC Delco PF457G (circa 2006) thrown in for comparison.

Honestly, I don't see enough of a difference to warrant your reluctance to use the Pronto filters. Maybe it's just the lighting and the angles, but the Pronto filter looks pretty darn good to me.

They all look like variations of FRAM/Puro Classic (IIRC). Nothing wrong at all. I am enjoying the latest WIX filters made in Poland:

Interesting...

Nobody is troubled by the inner pleats not having a gap? I bought six since they were so cheap. That is probably three years of usage for me!

Gap or no gap on the inner pleats makes no different for the oil filtered through the media. I would use it without worry. I wish the cartridge filter for my E430 is that cheap, the lowest price I can find online is about $7-8 and dealer price is $29.xx for the fleece filter.

What the [censored]. Maybe I will use them. It is only the ION, if the engine grenades then I can buy a Mazda 2 with an, almost, clear conscience.
