Product Idea - driveway installed automatic undercarriage washer

As a life long West-Coastie where the average car age is over a dozen rust free years old, I'm continually amazed when seeing Youtube videos showing how rusty east coast and mid-west cars get. It's shocking, really.

Somebody has had to have already thought of this, but has anyone seen or heard of a system where a pad is installed in your drive way such that whenever you drive over it, it sprays the undercarriage of your car with jets of water to rinse the salt off?

Not a bad idea but the places that would need such a device tend to be quite cold in the winter months and the runoff water would just ice over at the end of the driveway and pose a safety risk.

Hmm... not living in a snowy climate, I didn't think of that right away. Plus the pipes would freeze. It would only be practical to use during a thaw.

In Minnesota we can go many months without the temp getting above freezing.

A neat idea but we just use an $10 oscillating lawn sprinkler hooked up to the hose. You can focus it exactly where you want it.

If you have your vehicle treated with Krown or similar you want to skip the uncarriage wash.

I have thought about constructing something out of regular PVC pipe and sprinkler heads of different spray patterns that could screw onto a garden hose and then be slid under the vehicle to give it a good rinse. I'll bet this could be done for about $30 and would be lightweight and easily stored when not in use.

Not endorsing this particular product, but the inexpensive undercarriage sprayers are available if you don't mind getting out the pressure washer.

Car washes have underbody wash options. People who care or think about it, will use that option.
