I need some help locating a deck belt. Mower is a 1996 model Poulan Pro (AYP) with a 42" deck. Over the years, I have replaced the belts without issue. The last one was a knockoff auto belt, I put it on because I needed the mower. It lasted about 3 years, so I can't complain. Now I can't find a belt, every thing I get is about 3" too long. The one I just got is Husqvarna 532138255 Mower Deck Belt for 42-Inch and 50-Inch Decks For Husqvarna/Poulan/Roper/Craftsman/Weed Eater. The P/N matches the parts catalog but it is just a little too long. Can anyone shed a little light on this? Do older model AYP mowers use a different belt?? I really need to get this old mower going, it's getting time to start mowing and bagging leaves.

Stupid question, but the knockoff auto belt p/n won't work for you now?

If it's too long, how's the tensioner?

Take the belt to your local parts store. They have a measuring tool.

It looks and works like this:

Select appropriate belt that is 3" shorter.

Most OPE belts are fabric wrapped to take the abuse of tensioners and twisting/turning. Using you husky part number above we find out your current belt is 95" x 0.5" wide x 5/16" deep (4LK profile): https://www.vbeltguys.com/products/...ShqPr3QIVC0JpCh0X7wbXEAQYBCABEgLiaPD_BwE

I then poked around the web a bit to find a common part identifier such as A91K 4L950K. The 950 is the 95 inch length. I then popped in 920 and 930 (92 inch and 93 inch) and came up with a site like this: https://www.vbelts4less.com/Kevlar-A-Section-K-Plus-V-Belts_c_55.html And you find your 92 or 93 inch x 1/2 inch belt.

Google 4LK920 or 4LK930 to find lots of options. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200468291_200468291?cm_mmc=Google-pla&utm_source=Google_PLA&utm_medium=Lawn%20%2B%20Garden%20%3E%20Lawn%20Mowers%20%3E%20Belts%20%2B%20Pulleys&utm_campaign=A%20%26%20I%20Products&utm_content=20192&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7t_Ok6jr3QIVD4hpCh0VGwouEAQYBCABEgInrfD_BwE

This assumes that you really need a shorter belt and not that you have worn parts. Hope this helps!!!!

I've always had excellent luck getting the correct OEM parts from this company. Shipping is usually very prompt and the have the OEM stuff. Those belts are usually kevlar cord belts. Most of the time automotive don't work/last very long. Seems you did ok on your last one though.

Here is their link. You'll need the model number of the tractor to make sure you get the right part.

Great info. Thanks. The 4L950K is the one I have listed in my file of P/N's and is the one I have used in the past. That is what I ordered this time. What I got is too long. Makes no sense. I took the new and the old belts to to HD && lowes and they both have to same belt as my new one. Now I know that the deck is worn some, but it has been rebuilt twice and it was working fine until the belt broke. My problem is that i have to have someone else do the repair work as I am laid up with major back and leg problems. It's so frustrating...

I had hoped that someone had run into this situation before.

Thanks everyone.

My FIL gets his mower belts from CarQuest. He brings them the old one and they'll match it up as best they can. He's had to go back a few times for proper fit though.

Like said and as you've probably found now, that 42" Husqvarna group built deck is a very common deck that's been around forever. Should be easy to lookup the belt p/n.
