You failed to demonstrate all your experience, expertise and learning power here at BITOG, by insisting he use the current spec SN Plus / Dexos1 Gen2 oil, not some catastrophic- dinosaur SM with an ocean of Calcium and only a trace of Magnesium.

Wait - never mind. Customer is always correct and whatever the customer wants - the customer should get.
........ that's how we operate here in Michigan anyways.
So never mind all the dribble I wrote in my first paragraph Adam.

Wait - I just thought of something else.
He should be using a silicone ADBV in that Kia Soul GDI. You better send that customer on the right path Adam.
Wait - never mind. See my 2nd paragraph for it's retraction on NOT getting into any customer faces with negatory comments/advice.

….. has a Purolator sounding part number, but sure looks like a Wix inside...
The Wix ProTec name can be found right on the Wix website. Been there for quite some time, 3-5k recommended fci jobber tier filter. And while some may use a combo valve, unlike the majority Champ SuperTech line, many do not. The part number itself is typical Wix numbering, just speculating the PTL prefix stands for Pro Tec Line. And I'd expect PTL is used to differentiate from standard Wix labeled filter which is 51334.

This one run within it's recommended fci and looks to have gotten the job done. Thanks for c&p.

Looks fine to me.

Thought I was buying a Pro Tec equivalent when I recently purchased a NAPA Pro Select. It was a Pro Select 21348 which crosses over to a Fram 3614 or Motorcraft 910S. It was made 1/24/2019.

Decided to cut it open because the base plate holes were Purolator, and not like the round hole Wix or Pro Tec. No steel coil spring inside even though the back of the box says "Steel Coil Spring". It had a leaf spring.

This was made in Gastonia, NC by Mann+Hummel. No mention of Wix.

Any pics of that one?

I would love to use these Pro-tec filters (or their equivalent) in my F150 (FL820S size), but the combo valve in them just does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Same with the Champ made ST2 size, they also use a combo valve (but a different design than Wix).

I would not have an issue running the topic model filter in a Hyundai/Kia or Honda vehicle for a 5000 mile interval though.

Thanks for the C&P though, looks good.
Just curious, why the shorter mileage interval (although 3,750 miles is the "severe" Kia mileage interval).
Not sure if Kia was using DI motors yet in 2014, but if so, I could understand a <5000 mile interval on conventional oil (although I would bet a 5000 mile interval would be fine with the 10w-30).

Yes, sir - my 2013 Kia Optima has the 2.4 Theta-II DGI engine. I think 2011 is the starting point.

Unfortunately, Mann owns Wix now, so there's going to be an inevitable "Purolator" effect on formerly Wix made filters.

Why could there not be Wix effect on Purolators?

That effect (for the good) may have already began. Last couple Puros I saw cut open here, looked darn good.

Fingers are crossed.
Horseshoe in cargo pocket
Rabbit's foot (being dragged) on a chain.... due to smell.....lol

Exactly there is a bosch filter that I've only seen at oreillys that is wix made. All other bosch filters seem to be purolator

Sometimes an autoparts store will get old stock from another store thart's closing, or get the product because it's a terrible seller five miles away.

This is true, the O'R Bosch called Bosch Steel Tech. That said, all Bosch labeled oil filters are 'made fors' ie., made for Bosch by another manufacturer.

However, afaik to this point (since acquisition) there's been no cross over of Wix and Puro manufactured filters under their specific labels. There has been a cross over of parent (M&H) Mann manufactured filter for Wix with the new(er) 51334 and 21334 ProSelect. That said, I've read no complaints about them or their construction here.

As for the previously mentioned Wix filter anecdote that appears to imply if not state Puro construction, pics or it didn't happen. That an expression I rarely if ever use, however as it would be a first seen on this subforum seems appropriate here.

Thanks for the pics. It should be noted that the ProSelect is a 'made for Napa' filter, not Wix labeled. In this case, it looks to be a Puro manufactured filter and whoever is responsible for the box information clearly hasn't updated it for the 21348. I'd be interested to know if this filter is really made in Gastonia, or made at the Puro Fayetteville NC plant. If I was speculating (operative word), even though the can says Gastonia I'd go with the latter. Being the former I'd think the Gastonia plant would have had to undergo some serious retooling, possible I suppose.

But even though it's a 'made for', this is first cross over construction type to Puro type for what has been Wix made type construction. If Wix labeled 51348/Napa Gold1338 did something similar, that would be a major change. While I'd be surprised, have to wait and see.

All that said and realizing it's unused, for a jobber/value tier filter, doesn't look bad.

I think I counted 54 pleats. Lot of pleats for such a small filter.

I was going to use the filter, but when I saw the Purolator base plate I decided to cut it open to see if it actually contained a steel coil spring to confirm my suspicion that it did not have one.
