Pro Line Oil at Pep Boys

i was in Pep Boys tonight looking through the oil selection and they sell Pro Line, their store brand, by the QT and in a 5QT jug

they had 5W20, 5W30 and 10W40

i was contemplating using the 5W30 + a Pro Line filter for an oil change
i was checking the bottle for API and other certifications, and noticed it did not say "energy conserving"

then i check the 5QT jug ... and low and behold, it indicated "energy conserving"

anyone have any details?

1. i'm not sure i know what that means, but i'm under the impression i shouldn't use "energy conserving" oil in my motorcycle because it's not compatible with the wet clutch, on the other hand, i assume that the energy conserving oil has additives that my newer model car likes and wants
2. was the QT bottle improperly marked?
3. was the 5QT jug improperly marked?
4. were they different oils?

candidly, even if this juice is adequate, or better than adequate, i'm now inclined to forever avoid it just because it confused me ...

i took down the phone number for the distributor and plan to call them, but i don't expect to get an answer

the "guy" at pep boys said the oil is "good" because his "friend" told him so
he got angry when i laughed in his face at this comment

I'd give the distributor a call.

As for laughing in his face, i'd have done the same. Sand is good for your engine, pour it in via the oil fill hole. My friend says it works wonders.
