Hey guys- what's the consensus on Martin Oil? I've got a salesman for a local distributor that's looking to sell me a barrel of it. I believe it's API certified at least and is a synthetic blend but know nothing else about it.

The price is right at slight less per barrel than I'm paying for conventional Chevron Supreme. I like the idea of selling a name brand, but if this is a superior product for a few bucks less then what the heck???

As far as recommended drain lengths go, I'll still probably stick with 5k miles or per the IOLM.

No VOA is going to show whether an oil meets the entirety of the required specifications. I wouldn't use it unless it specifically states that it meets what you require.

Is this your oil?

If so, the way that's worded it doesn't appear to carry any actual specifications. If it does they're making it hard to figure that out by saying "Performance Level". Either way, I don't see how you could come to any kind of conclusion that it is superior to Chevron.

I don't think so. Thing is I'm not entirely sure what product he's selling now. I searched out the Xtreme product and it looks like they cater to mixed fleet and ag/industrial applications. However, Martin does offer a product under their Unimark line that seems solid... especially with a 9% NOACK.

That 5W30 is just barely in grade by the 100C viscosity (9.3 min), but the HTHS is the same as M1 5W30. That CCS viscosity at -30C is just crazy low (which is good), and I'm surprised to see such good NOACK with a flashpoint of only 212C. OCIs should be pretty short with a starting TBN of 6.6, just like the M1 5W30 ESP I am planning to run next.
Can't say I've ever seen specs for a 5W30 quite like that...probably want to make sure that's really what you're going to get!
Also interesting that the NOACK for the 10W30 is quite a bit higher than for the 5W30...maybe more dino content??

Can anyone confirm this? I'm having a hard time find the PDS for the Chevron Supreme. I can find the Havoline conventional and syn blend oils, but not Chevron.

Yeah, the more I think about this stuff, the less inclined I am to buy it. Not off the list though.

The 5W-20 and 5w-30 are syn blends per the PDS.

Good eye!

I think I'll stick with the Chevron for now unless it has gone way up in price. It's most likely the better product anyway.

Good thing somebody who can actually read looked at that!
Good catch, I obviously did not read carefully enough.
