One of my friends has a daughter that was in a very serious accident.
The young girl ( school age) was sitting at a stop sign and she was hit by a speeding driver in a BMW behind her.
He never saw her or the light. Must have been texting or on the phone or a brake failure etc.. Not known at this point.
She had to be cut out of the car and the mother was phoned suggesting the worst. Released from shock trauma within several hours as she was beat up and had a concussion but nothing broken or worse.

Several officers at the scene are now Prius believers....... These were the only pictures posted.
It could have been deadly- easily so.

Ask the firefighters; they're the ones doing the heavy lifting (extracation and administering patient care).

wow, i've seen similar carnage after a collision with a pickup truck (some BOTOG members proudly proclaim to be prius killers), but BMW? that must have been some great speed!

what happened with the BMW driver?

Not to be a downer but I had two relatives killed in a head on while in a Prius, the other guy was fine. My dad was rear ended while stopped in a 90's Jeep Cherokee by a Toyota truck going 80mph. My dad walked away and the Toyota guys were in critical condition. The Cherokee was about 3' shorter when it was all said and done.

Holy [censored]!! I wonder if they can determine how fast the dumb [censored] in the BMW was going? Glad she's ok!!

About two years ago I saw a car on the front of an eighteen wheeler. Couldn't tell what kind of car it was, but it was crushed like a pop can only about 4ft long at that point. Obviously the car got rear ended by the eighteen wheeler. Spent an hour in traffic getting past the wreck.

Best of wishes to a speedy and full recovery.
Yes they can tell how fast if the seize the brain box. Come pretty close now with software and inputting weights and skid travel. I helped with scene documentation while on fire dept

Modern cars are phenomenal in what they are designed to do. Don't forget, most any car on the road today will be like this: designed to disintegrate in such a manner so as to give occupants the highest likely chance of survival.

Friend's relative, in a Prius, was hit head on at high speed by an SUV, they lived and the other driver didn't. They were very, very badly injured and will never be completely the same, but I was impressed by the way the Prius took a hit of that magnitude; front end essentially crushed, engine appeared to rotate under and the passenger compartment was mostly intact. Prius are not my favorite car, but apparently they do protect their occupants, especially given their size.

Big +1! That looks like she lived despite her car not because of the car. That car looks like its just made of soft metal.....hard to tell without having any info on the BMW....however I certainly do not want to be in a Prius after seeing those pics.

It does have crumple zones that disperse the energy of the crash instead of absorbing it. Which means less trauma to the passengers. Better to sacrifice the car than the passengers.

Given that there's no real testing for rear end accidents, the back of a car is very "soft" compared to the front. I doubt the guy touched the brakes even, as often the rear of the car hit rides up over the bumper when the nose is dropped down from braking.
I'm impressed the Prius didn't catch on fire, you'd think the fuel tank would leak, and the battery pack be split open?
At least toyota made the seats properly, alot of cars would have had the driver sticking out the back window in a hit like that.
