Pretty Decent Score

Ran to napa today to find a bunch of old Castrol GTX startup in a green bottle for 1.50 a qt. I talked to the manager and he said he had a bunch of stuff in the back to go to clearance. I told him i would buy it all if he would take the time to bring it out.

30 qts Castrol GTX startup 10w40 ,API SL for 1.50/qt
13 qts Mobil 10w30, SJ,(old blue bottle before mobil clean) 1.50/qt
23 qts valvoline gear oil , 2.00/qt(13 synpower, 10 regular), various weights
9 qts valvoline engine treatment, 1.00/ qt (looks like oil container)

Gear oil was a great find the synpower is about half 75w140 and other half 75w90 and the dino was about the same split between 80w90 and 85w140

I actually dont even know what the valvoline engine treatment is but the instructions say to mix 25% and run with oil change interval similar to MMO.

Grand total about 130 dollars out the door. The GTX startup data sheet is about worthless. Does anyone have any idea what this stuff is or its viscosity?

GTX Startup was supposibly the magnetic oil that clung to cylinder walls so it wouldnt drain off.I believe its still sold in other countries under other names.

Thanks, Im not sure if there's anything to there claims but its 10w40 and SL rated so it will work fine in most of my stuff, especially my old 4.3L and 350 GM trucks with >200K miles on them. I believe they all have 15w40 Delo , i got on clearance at Walmart, in them now.

Its really the Mobil SJ stuff im not sure what to use in. Maybe ill use it up in my beater car i drive to work and back.

Yeah, that's a good score!
Some of those oils such as the VSOT and the GTX Start Up may be about 4-5 years old as I remember buying some pn closeout at Pep Boys Auto Parts "THEN" for about the same price($1-$1.50)

Im not sure, It is just called Valvoline Synpower Engine Treatment and is in a oil container not a 12 or 14 oz container. If it is the same stuff it looks like a decent additive.

The Valvoline Synthetic Oil Treatment(VSOT) was in a 12-14 oz Gold-ish colored bottle and quite thick(similar to STP GOOP). The VSOT was loaded with additives and the directions suggested 1 oz VSOT per/qt of crank case oil.

The VSOT was originaly about $5-$9(IIRC) but, often on closeout for $1-$4. Sounds like the product that you bought is in the qt size, which I have never seen.
