is this ok to use up some oil?

i have a bout 5 qts of castrol gtx 5w30 laying around cause i bought to much.
I want to seriously change my vehicle over to synthetic so can i just add maybe a half of qt of the gtx to mobil 1 5w30 to use the stuff up without harm?

I finished a auto-x cycle so she's ready for synthetic.

personally I would put the Castrol in for about 2,000 miles and fresh filter dump and go with the Mobil,as a sort of a good flush,BL

I don't like the idea of adulterating the Mobil 1 with a conventional oil. Brian fix has a great idea and it might actually be considered a second rinse cycle to the Auto Rx. Not sure it really does much in the Auto Rx sense, but surely would give the seals a longer conventional treatment before the switch to synthetic. Alternately, you could return the GTX to the store.

Not sure why the little bit of GTX in a load of M1 rubs me so wrong, because in the converse, I think a quart of M1 into 4 quarts GTX would be a superbrew (as I just mentioned on the Valvoline thread). Yeah, maybe trey could try that and do a used oil analysis to compare with the later straight M1 mix. As fine as M1 is, I suspect you get your best bang for the buck with a blend. Look at Maxlife: mostly group I with 15% PAO and it performs very well.

Actually, if I understand your flexbrew correctly, it is prehaps the most brilliant mixing idea of all. If only the world was as oil nuts as we at BIOTG. Then he oil companies could offer, instead of the cheezy blister pack of 5 quarts QS and a quart of Slick 50, an oil blending kit. You would get several base oil viscosities, a VII mixture, additive pack, and other misc stuff. They woudl supply a mixing chart and formula to allow you to have an infinite variety of mixes within the general range you are looking for. One kit for the thick heads, one for the thin heads. Maybe an inbetween for those on the fence.
