Prestone used to offer a radiator additive that had Teflon in. I wonder why it was taken off the market. I used to put it in my vehicles. Did they find it clogging the radiators?

Don’t know if it did any good, but I added it for the protection Prestone promised with the Teflon.

The teflon (PTFE) in oil additives never really did what they advertised. Could it have been any different in the coolant?

First, I've not heard of this Prestone AF additive. I do know that Fram which is currently part of the same company used to offer a Teflon/PTFE coated media oil filter called the Double Guard. That was during the PTFE Slick 50 craze, and was 'imo' a misguided attempt to cash in on that fad. It's now known that PTFE has no place in an internal combustion engine.

The Double Guard quietly went away and is something I would think that Fram would now rather be forgotten.

Now whether this referenced additive and thought process is in any way connected to the DG, I have no idea.

Disclaimer. This post is in no way intended to start a flame war, just presenting facts about what 'might' (or might not) have been a related product.

I would say no, just use the proper mix of coolant and distilled water in your cooling system.

This is from the folks, who sell a kit to blast hose water into your cooling system as well.

The only additive I would ever add would be the Bars Leaks or AC Delco tablets for a minor leak. I believe it is comprised of crushed walnuts to plug small leaks. Beyond that the only thing the cooling system needs is coolant and distilled.

+1

At room temp, teflon is a solid. Think sand. Also it has to be like 620F to adhere to metal. You might have to change your thermostat temp to make it work. LOL Haven't seen a 650F thermostat yet.
