If you remember, WM used to pitch the "we sell american wehnever possible", that faded out largely becasue the average consumer wouldnt pay the extra money for 'made in America" when the chinese copy was right next to it for 1/3 less, as most consumers are price oriented when it comes to purchases, especially impulse type.

I'm not buying that. You can't tell the Chinese products just by the price. Wally and the other big boxes did this to maximize their profits. The consumer saves little or nothing.

Right... often there are $0.99 widgets, and often they are next to similar ones... one made in USA, another made in China. I wonder which they have a greater margin on???

Popeycock! Give me an example of two similar items (China/USA)sitting next to each other on a Walmart shelf. Walmart's sophisticated inventory control system would not allow a lesser profit margin item to take up shelf space for too long.

Like it or not, we can try to continue buying from American companies, but choosing where it is made is out of our hands. I found out this week that even my beloved Redwing boots have Chinese ties (assembled there or parts from there). It's sad.

Right. I think the only USA made stuff I've bought from Wal-Mart (or anywhere else for that matter..) have been groceries, motor oil, and oil filters. I think just about everything else (from most if not all clothing items, childrens toys and games, electronics, ect) have been produced in other countries. Some items proudly proclaim to be "designed in USA but assembled in xxxx".

I really dont know if this belongs or not, but a few months ago I saw my Cheapo $2.50 Pylon wipers in a new red packaging at wallyWorld. Though noow made in china. They were always made in USA. New packaging, new country, but same low price. I believe Trico wipers are now the only ones made in USA.

Iv'e noticed that several times. Same product same price but Made In China. I guess they don't pass on the saveing. They just keep the profits and screw the American workers. All in the name of the bottom live.
