anyone know if prestone brake fluid have harsh chemicals in it? i've noticed that there is a of black dirt accumulating at the bottom of the clutch reservoir which i assume is from the rubber clutch hose lines.

Prior to prestone, i was using Honda oem brake fluid. No signs of black dirt and the fluid would be amber.

Reservoir-clutch fluid bled 9k miles ago. The fluid is actually clean, its just that dirt accumulated at the bottom.

cleanliness of fluid-just dipped toilet paper in there

dirtiness at the bottom-swiped the bottom of the reservoir with the toilet paper.

thoughts?

yes brake fluid has harsh chemicals in it, thats why you have to be very careful not to get any on the paint because it will ruin it.

however, the brake fluid and lines are meant to work with each other, its natural. that fluid is alright, little bit dark but i personally would flush it out with dot 3 or 4 fluid. valvoline and prestone would be my choice, honda oem is probably twice the price for essentially the same thing.

brake flush is very simple if you have someone to help pump the brakes while you loosten the bleeder screw, and about 2 feet of clear tubing so the fluid can flow into a bottle.

valvoline 32oz bottle of dot 3/4 at walmart for around $7, more than enough for one car, i use it and it works great.

bought a Russell stainless steel clutch line, can't wait to replace it!

going to use honda oem fluids. its 2-3 bucks a bottle, so not bad at all.

Normal seal/hose degradation. Looks like your prestone cleaned everything up left behind by the OE fluid.

Flush it again.
Particulate matter is abrasive and can eventually clog things.
Maybe the Prestone is actually better , and is cleaning better?
