Hey all, iv got this pressure washer and it has a 212cc engine.

Was thinking of changing the oil and have 0w40 shell full synthetic at home that's used in the car. Is this oil safe for use in the pressure washer engine or should I go out and buy a specific oil that's for this machine?
I'm in the UK so it's fairly cold climate

No issues. 0w40 is acceptable.
Pressure washer is pretty hard use on an engine.. at full load. (at least the ones I've owned)
the pump is water cooled but not the engine so they can get pretty toasty.

its not a lawnmower where the load is variable dependent on grass thickness etc.

Excellent as long as it's safe to use will use it.
My small brigs and Stratton lawn mower uses sae30 oil and that bottle is running out too. Will the 0w40 be ok to use in this engine or should I go out and buy another bottle of straight 30 oil ?

Yes. I run it my Briggs powered push mower.

10-30 syn all day here. Less spread between the numbers means more oil and less Viscosity improvers (VII I think we call it here?). I will NOT run 5-30 in an air cooled engine.

I never have oil related problems in OPE engines it's always something like a broken valve (head coming off stem) or broken valve spring. Stuff you really can't avoid unless you're doing time-related parts replacement like an aircraft.

When does a valve break off typically?

I have a B&S engine on my washer, and I use Mobil 1 10w30 in it as I do with all my OPE. The unit is now 13 years old and still runs great.

Since pressure washers see extended wide open throttle runs resulting and oil temp soar up to +90c above your ambient temperature yeah use a 40 or 50wt oil.

They have pretty good cooling fans. These air cooled engines rub pretty cool below 70 degrees
