I ran a flush oil through my MIL's GM 3800 V6 with ~135k miles. The flush oil is from @High Performance Lubricants and is ester-based with a complete add pack. This flush oil is meant to substitute 1 quart for a normal OCI to slowly clean out the engine. This is the result after ~5k miles. It definitely did its job.

1 quart - HPL SAE 30 EF
3.5 quarts - Havoline HM 5W-30

How can you know that the flush oil has 'done it's job' or 'done some thorough cleaning'?

What is the control that you are comparing against?
How do you know that a regular fill per OEM spec would not produce the same results, over the same oci, and with the same operating conditions?

Because that is what this vehicle has had is regular oil changes with API oil per OEM spec every 3k miles since my MIL bought it new in 2003.

Looks similar to what I started to see in my oil filters when I started running M1 in our 2002 Expedition that had been on dealer/bulk oil its entire life prior to our ownership. Meeting the spec, when it isn't a Euro approval, historically hasn't meant much in the context of North American or Japanese marques, the bar for the API lubes has been pretty low.

Do you have a link to the product? Looks like it worked. I stopped doing flushes on my vehicles.
I am interested as well. This sounds like a better version of auto-rx.
I'd like more information on the product, too. Very curious about it.

Here's a VOA for this oil that I posted a while back.

It's not on the website yet, but you can order it over the phone. 815-932-3288

All,

I will get the engine flush on our webstore at advlubrication.com. The fact that we utilize AN’s and esters in our engine oils prevents this scenario from happening even with extended drains. Knowing that our oils themselves clean we typically recommend a short initial fill to allow the cleaning to take place. For this reason we have not promoted our ester based flush. This is certainly a great example of why choices in raw materials matter. Choosing an oil that simply meets the spec may not produce the most desirable results. To Overkill’s point, there are many clean engine pictures on M1 which makes sense as they manufacture AN’s and esters. Good choices in raw materials produce good results.

When using HPL's engine oil with alkylated naphthalenes and esters or engine flush, I would HIGHLY suggest changing your oil filter after a couple thousand miles and inspecting to see how much carbon the oil has cleaned from the engine. As we saw in my Durango, which I didn't think had anything to clean from the engine internals, you don't want to run around with a filter that bypasses because of the load of crude. If you see a load of stuff cleaned from the internals, then you need to keep changing your filter at a decreased interval.

After some thought we have created a code “BITOGFLUSH15” in our online store. What this does is trigger the process in which we will substitute a quart of engine flush with a quart from a case ordered from the store. (We will still honor the 15% discount and not up charge for the engine flush) This will avoid the issue of freight on a single quart. Of course the added benefit is the engine will stay clean going forward. We will add the individual quart to the webstore shortly. The good news is it works. The bad news is it will be costly to ship single quarts.

What is the target ratio of HPL flush oil in a sump?

How often can this product be safely used if the user is not running HPL engine oils?

Does this product have any known issues with rtv sealant? I ran a fill of Valvoline Premium Blue restore in my car and it caused oil seepage from rtv sealed areas. Ever since I switched back to Mobil 1 or other synthetics, the seepage is gone.

The ratio is 1 quart of flush to 5 quarts of oil.

The level of ester is safe at that ratio so there would not be a frequency issue. The need to clean again would be relative to how clean the oil you run is. If you are running Mobil 1 you will likely be in good shape.

I do not believe there would be any issues with our choice of ester and RTV.

Thank you for the questions.

If you had seen deposits in the engine before the flush, roughly how much and where? Is it reasonable to assume previous oil was usually not synthetic? Did the car make a lot of short trips per oil change?
