Anyone with experience with these oil filters? I've seen some cut open on this site and they looked ok. Lots of local shops use them I assume because they are quite cheap (about 1.50 each from word of mouth). Their website just claims "96% initial efficiency "

The most important filter on an engine is the air filter. Where is the filter made?

Made in China, sold by a lot of places (Rural King, Federated, and Parts Plus to name a few)-efficiency could be better, but they sell tons of them, and I don't recall seeing reports of failures here.

98% at 20 microns is what the Premium Guard that's made for Federated Auto says. That's actually rather good.

There are two different levels of Premium Guard filters.... ie.... older version Fram EG and TG, for example.

I use the $1.50 Premium Guards on my Chevy Colorado. Super quiet cold startups now, unlike my former filters AC Delco and Fram Ultra. I may try the silicone ADBV Premium Guard someday. But not this winter. I already purchased a Premium K&N for that.

I have used many of them with no problems. Even had one on my riding mower that did not cause any issues.

Of course there are two levels

The higher level black one with synthetic media. And the white one that is the lower level version. Federated Auto has both of course.

I bought a whole bunch from Rock Auto some time ago. I have cut a few open and all looks good.

I reckon you easily could pay a whole lot more for worse quality filters!

That is a good rating. I've not seen a Premium Guard 'labeled' filter as such publish an 'ISO' standard efficiency rating for their filters. The sometimes compared here to PG EX, the AZ STP XL with China coo, locally as new stock comes in all previous ISO efficiency information eliminated from the boxes. The 96% rating on the website for the topic standard PG, as so often noted for other filters, means little to nothing without a micron level.

Based on appearance alone, the PG dissection anecdotes show it to be a decently made filter.

I have used a handful over the years with no issues. Just a basic jobber filter.

My local Toyota dealership uses them in their quickie lube for all non Toyota vehicles and the used cars they get in on trade and are oil changed and inspected before turning them on the used car lot. The service bay manager told me he had no instances so far for returns related to the filters themselves.
