I'm tearing reading this. Our 7th anniversary is this month on the 26th. Ill be 33 on the 23rd. Time is ticking and i think about it way to much. It's killing me to know that one day someone close to me will be gone. God help you and your family. Stay strong my friend and keep close to the ones who are still with you.

Same here. I find myself thinking about that stuff ALL the time. I know it's not smart or useful, but every time we are happy, which is a lot, the opposite kind of thoughts just come to me and i get lost in them, imagining the saddest things that are going to happen someday...

some people are so good at thinking only about the present. I wish I was one of them.

Blessings to your wife in her journey, condolances to you in your loss...you will be rejoined, love undying.

-Elizabeth, John's (Jarlaxle) wife

Guys, DON'T do that kind of thinking! I too used to do that. I'd think about the little cement bench for two by our pond and how some day I might have to sit there solo and that day is here now and I'm just swimming in loneliness and grief about that former thought having come true. I know exactly what pattern of thinking you guys are referring to, exactly. I did it the same way, happy times would beget a thought process such as "what will I do when these times pass and I'm alone?" Like some kind of weird fire and ice thinking process. All it does is torture you once the unthinkable actually does happen, you sit and regret that thought process so badly.

I'm doing slightly better than last week, but just slightly. There have been a few weird things happen in the house since that day which actually are kind of re-assuring to me that she or God is sending messages. I know that sounds crazy and like a grief stricken survivor trying to twist coincidental occurences into something more. But there are several occurences and two other family members saw parts of these occurences. Will not discuss publicly. PM me if interested in knowing more.

Very sorry LoneRanger. My prayers are with your family. My wife and I celebrate 19 years in a few weeks. That would be tough.

There is a social researcher here in town who has a great TEDX presentation on this. Her message is that when we do these preemptively protective reactions against imagined sadness in the future, we are actually reducing our capacity to experience joy in the present. If you are interested, search YouTube for TEDxKC - Brené Brown - The Price of Invulnerability .

I apologize to the OP for the seeming hijack, but this vid reinforces his point of the importance of experiencing the joy of the current moment.

Not a hijack at all, and it makes perfect sense.
