PP out... Havoline DS in

Changed the oil in my 5.3 Silverado today. I gave up on PP. I just couldn't justify the price any more. Like Gary Allan said, PP's rise to fame was it's great price point, but now it is as much in quart flavors as M1. The jugs are a bit better, but not much. I flirted with switching to Amsoil, but still wasn't cost effective even if I further extended my already extended drains.

I was able to snag 6 quarts of DS and an AC Delco filter for $19.93 at Walmart today. I'm going back to using the OLM and draining around 20% or every 6 months, which equates to just under 5000 miles.

People quitting syn oil[like rats fleeing a sinking ship] cause they realize the preconceived benefits may not be worth the cost is amazing . Syn oil is good stuff if you can get the benefits out of them which most do not. The last few conventional oil ratings have been real good.

To me PP is still pretty cheap every six months or 7500 miles. I ran Redline and Amsoil most of my trucks life for those intervals.

It's hard to beat 6 quarts of DS and an AC Delco filter for $19.93. P is pricing their products like the economy is in great shape. This is the wrong time for any company to raise prices.

Oil & filter change less then $30.00 using PP and Mobil 1 oil filter every 2.5 months (6k miles)still looks reasonable when tank of gasoline cost over $40.00.

I just got 5 Quarts of Quaker State Synthetic and Mopar filter for 22 bucks. Going about 7500.

Thats not too bad.

That's a good point, but the counter is that when you're standing in the oil section doing the math, and you realize that you can have five quarts of DS for less than half of what the M1 or PP costs (unless you get jug Pennzoil Platinum at Walmart at a good price), saving about twenty bucks, and you get an oil that's probably going to do the exact same thing for at least the first 5k miles, it puts a different spin on the question.

I just got 6300 miles on a PP AAP bogo fill with a wix filter. So I am still on the cheap with my Bogo stash at $2.83/qt.
