PP oil consumption

Hello everyone

Ive switched from Amsoil to PP and now my car is burning/consuming oil.

Ive had Amsoil in my car since new ,and never consumed one single drop of oil,at 54,000 miles i decided switch to PP,now im at 1500 miles with PP and added a quart so far.

Should i bring back my PP stash and continue using amsoil,Any thoughts?

Same here - have used Amsoil XL, Mobil 1, Royal Purple, and Castrol Syntec in the past - never any consumption until I switched to PP - but 1 quart per 1,500 miles seems very excessive. I use maybe 1 quart per 6,000 miles.

If its too annoying you might want to switch back. Or if you continue to burn 1 qt per 1500 miles you might switch back. I still like PP in spite of my consumption issues, IMO this is pretty much the only flaw of PP. In defense of PP, my truck runs great with it, gets better mileage, and it did seem to clean up the engine a good bit. Now and then I get the urge to switch back to GC. Maybe one of these days...

+1 Although I did not have a consumption problem switching from Mobil 1 to PP many people do. It can take an OCI or two depending on how long the OCI is for the consumption to decrease. I'd stick with it and see what happens.

I switched from Mobil 1 0W40 to Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 in '00 MB E430 without any measurable consumption in 7k miles, included a trip to Vegas in summer.

You should try PP 2 full OCI's to see if consumption is reduced on second changes.

Or maybe the 1.8L corolla engine is a oil consumption prone engine has it ages?...but that wouldn't make sense really cause the consumption started right oh way after i switched.

Bear in mind that PP has a pretty high NOACK for a synthetic oil... Generally quite a bit higher than the equivalent Amsoil grade (which by contrast has some of the lowest NOACK's in the industry). Depending on your driving / operating conditions, that may play into it.

.....or maybe your engine just got dehydrated.

people say consumption will fix itself after a few oil changes. going from 0 oil consumption to a quart in 1.5k miles does not seem like an oil issue...........

My car drinks PP as well. I think the difference is its just a fairly thin oil. I could be wrong but that is all that makes sense to me.

I'm definitely going back to Amsoil on next oci,very strange things have been happening since iv'e switched besides oil consumption.

How would that work. How could a oil fix itsself or the car just stop using a certain oil? I have never had luck with Havoline, Seems like everything I put it in uses oil. Since no one else has the trouble, its just wierd. I havent had any trouble with PP in using oil.

I was down a quart on PP on my last OCI. I have used PP for the last 60k and I noticed this issue. I had so much of it, I just dealt with the issue. Since I have changed to Pennzoil Conventional, I have had not consumption issues on 1500 miles currently. I'd rather switch to a conventional oil and change every 4k then spend an extra 6 dollars a quart for another 2k to reach 6k on an OCI. It's cheaper to run a good quality dino like Pennzoil Conventional or FS then it is to run PP. I pay the same for a case of Formula Shell as I do for on single change of PP. Yes, I know that I will hear from those who run extended drains that it is wasteful to run a quality synthetic for only 4 to 5k. But that is what Toyota recommends and it has worked for several other cars in the past. 20 dollars for three oil changes or 23 for one. It makes more sense for me to run conventional. I believe that PP is a great oil, but doesn't seem to like my toyota's engine (2.4L)... Good luck with what ever you do, the main goal is to keep your car running!!! Good Luck!!!

I wonder what im gonna do with 5 jugs of PP,i have 13 quarts of Amsoil but those are definitely going back in the engine.

Where did you buy it from? If it is from Walmart or where ever you bought it from, you could return it no receipt to get your money back(store credit) and use it for something else. Most places will not give you a hard time. I would return it before it loses value like a clearance sale. Good luck with amsoil!!!

Yes i bought it at wal-mart and i still have my receipt, i think i will bring them back definitely.

I dont know the whole story - but there is one regarding oil consumption (the rings, I think) on Corollas. I would switch back. 1500 miles per quart is "old-design American 4 cylinder" consumption territory! (I better duck now)

My brother had the same issue with PP on his 05 corolla, but he has switched to WB and has had no issues since. He is running 3750 OCI with no problems. Toys might not like the PP anymore, jk there are a lot of toyota's that do well with PP, but not mine!!!
