10 months in service, tons of short trips, 1 quart makeup oil, FL910S oil filter, OE air filter

Blackstone says: You mentioned that you do a lot of short trips. Between that, the 11,657 miles on the oil, and the 10 months in service, we sort of expected high wear, but nothing is out of line here. Averages are based on about 4,500 miles on the oil, so the slightly higher iron reading in your sample is to be expected as your oil run was a lot longer than average. Extra iron is fine unless it makes the oil abrasive and causes other wear. That hasn't happened here. No contamination was found, and the TBN of 2.1 shows active additive left. Try up to 13,000 miles next time.

I say: Wanted to stick with the MFG recommended 10K interval, but was out of town when the service interval came up. No Big Deal to me. I'll run this combo to the recommended 10K/12 months with confidence in the future. Probably won't sample again until 40-50K miles on unit.

What do you guys think?

Looks great! Due to warranty I wouldn't listen to black stone and would cap at 10k oci like you plan on doing.

At nearly 12K miles, the CA (amazing at 2569...more than many VOAs) and 2.1 TBN are impressive, but it's difficult to analyze with the 1 quart addition.

1/quart in 10-11k nothing to worry about.

Excellent run, impressive results.

This UOA is outstanding. Thanks for sharing. I would agree with others....PP is top-grade oil.

I have PP 5w20 in my 03' Ford Focus now.... and plan on running it to 7500 to 8000 OCI or so. My vehicle uses NO oil....so based on the above UOA (which added a quart)....I feel that is a reasonable OCI. I'm told that the 2.3 Duratec engine is very easy on oil.

I will have two 2000 mile R/T's to Southern California on this oil...the rest of my driving is short trips and short highway (20 to 30 miles).

Although very pleased with PP....my next oil will be M-1 0w20....which has had some outstanding UOA's on this forum.

nice looking report, wang! especially with all your city driving; i have used PP 5W20; it is one of my favorite oils and is an excellent value besides; all the best in carolina; my good friends just moved to misenheimer.

Sure is. In fact, its lighter than Valvoline Synpower 0w20!

What about PP 0w-20?

Almost as rare as a solar eclipse.

Odd that's the case in the States as PP 0W-20 is a routinely stocked item at Walmart in my area anyway. But at 9 bucks/qt it's no bargain considering the superior TGMO 0W-20 is only $5.75/L at your local Toyota/Lexus dealer.

My local Wal-mart carries the PP 0W-20 now in the 5 qt. jug for around $25.

Caterham: You said PP 5W-20 is the lightest 5W-20 on the market. I assume their own 0W-20 is as light/lighter, in addition to having a better VI? (I'm sure you know the stats off the top of your head)

Yes isn't is sad that I do know the stat's off the top of my head!
PP 0W-20 has a VI of 175 vs 169 for PP 5W-20 so yes the 0W-20 will be lighter but not hardly enough to notice. But PP 0W-20 is still preferable because of it's lower NOACK of 11.5% vs 12.8% for PP 5W-20. It's made from higher quality base oil stocks.
