. How long can I go on PP 5w-20 & a mobile 1 oil filter? I've heard 10k is possible but seems a little too high.

I previously was running Castrol GTX 5w-20 every 5k miles.

I drive it maybe 3-4 times a week. My compute from home to work is about 40 miles round trip.

I usually do a mixture of 70% hwy & 30% city driving, & I don't drive too conservative (but I don't dog it from every stop light).

PP is a very good oil, check the UOA section, you might find some with the same engine as yours.
Mobil1 filter is higly regarded here and in the UOA section, I think a Tundra owner showed us that its filtration is really good (he did particules count by sizes).

I will say you can go easily 7500 miles, especially with your driving and maybe even more after checking with an UOA.

My 2 cents, go 7000 miles, do an UOA while keeping the oil in the sump, and depending of the results, go longer or not.

More experienced BITOGERs (I am still novice) will probably chime in and be more detailed than me.

What is your car, how many miles?

I have a 2008 Scion Xb with a little over 11k miles.

What do you mean by doing an used oil analysis while keeping the oil in the sump?

With a car under warranty, you may want stick to the manufacturer recommendations.

You can sample your oil by the dipstick and wait for the results to know if you want to change your oil or not. This is what I do with my wife's car. Why changing an oil which still has some potential?

Me, I am still under warranty, so it is 6 months or 7500 miles, even if the oil is still in good shape, so right now I run syn blend and if I put less mileage on the car, I will go dino until the warranty is over.

You can get some aquarium tubing and drain out thru the dipstick tube (also, Amsoil, etal makes devices to get the oil out thru the dipstick tube). Or you can just drain into a very clean pan, get the sample, then refill with the same oil.

Instead, I would say do a "proof of concept" run - go ahead and take it to 10k (or whatever mileage you decide) and dump the oil and UOA at that pt to see if that's a good run. PP should do 10k just fine w/ the highway miles you're running.

If you have a clean running engine, then the M1 filter will still be in great shape at 10k - so if you decide to do any OCI under 10k, then I'd leave the M1 on there for two OCIs. Mobil1 engineers recommended taking even cheap off the shelf filters to at least 15k when running M1 EP (and they're covering a lot of different cars on the road when they state that - so dumping an M1, PureOne or Amsoil filter is a waste at (eg) 7k).

Well then that's your answer. 6 months or 7500. Try to sync the months/miles so you change the oil in the Fall and in the Spring.

I forgot about the warranty thing LOL. I guess until then I'll stick to what toyota recommends which is 5k OCI.

It might sound like using those two products for such a short OCI would be wasting money, but I don't want the dealer to find a reason to void my warranty on the engine.

Plus I like the PP. The noise level of the engine has gone down some so thats a plus.

Sorry, I thought your warranty was 7500/6. So go with the PP in compliance with your warranty. I prefer to work my changes so I put fresh oil in for over the winter.

It's all the wax cushioning the moving parts. That's the secret to audio enhanced oils.

PP 5w20 just turned over 5k miles in my Sienna. Only two make-up qts so far (big improvement that I attribute to Neutra runs and to the 5w20). Hard hot vacation miles - long highway trips and lots of stop-n-roll in Branson Mo. this past wkend. As with M1, the oil is just now getting dark amber. Schaeffers darkened very rapidly (9000 5w30 and 7000 15w40) in comparison - not sure if this makes any difference though.

I was getting poor mpg with the 5w20, but I put a new OEM airfilter in before the Branson trip - on the trip there (even with gaining altitude - "up hill" from Little Rock) my mpg was 24.5ish (up from 22.5ish I'd been getting). I want to do a few more mpg tests, but it looks like a clean airfilter may indeed have a real effect (contrary to what I've been reading lately).

Presently planning to go to around Thanksgiving on this oil and UOA. That will be the last part of last school year (daily short trips), the whole summer of highway runs, and the beginning of this next school year - all in the 1MZ-FE - proper torture test for an oil.
