I saw an article in the Chicago Sun Times about these recent huge jackpots.
They are manipulated and contrived to get them really high.
It generates interest and sales.

Somebody brought up an interesting point. Usually prize money on Powerball or MegaMillions is 20-40 Millions. However, that never generates this kid of interest. Realistically speaking, I personally see no difference in winning 40 Millions vs 400 Millions. My life would be identical in both the cases. So how come I have never bothered about winning "measly" 40 Millions but end up throw couple of bucks when the jackpot climbs up to 400 Millions? It is completely irrational! But then the entire lottery business is irrational when you look at it objectively.

The odds improve slightly when the jackpot is huge. As someone on TV said, you could buy every number combo for $300 million.

You may still have to split the pot with others and take home $40 million, but there's that extra sliver of hope you could get the whole shebang. That sliver is unique to a large pot.

I need the whole 550 million if i want to own a car and have some walking around money.
