A guy show up at my door and say I’m over pay the electric . Something about when I bought the house my contract was only .9 something. And he check my meter and say electric company is over charge and need refund . He ask to see my electric bill. He not asking, he was demanding. I told him go away .

Most of Texas is "deregulated" from the Enron nonsense.
The term itself is frankly hogwash, as all the providers match the rates and terms to be the worst options at any given time of the year. Right now until September will have the worst rates and terms.
What exists right now is several companies that basically are front/resellers for your local power company that actually maintains the infrastructure. Mine happens to be Oncor, for example.

Powertochoose.org will help you somewhat choose one of these providers. I always try to get the lowest rate at the longest duration beginning and ending in the september/dec timeframe.
Good luck, and vote with your feet whenever you can, the entire system is rigged.

I wouldn't call it scam since the company is likely legit, but it's definitely not in your best interests to talk to them, especially when they demand to see your electric bill. All they need is your account number and they can switch you over to a new supplier (them) without you even knowing until you get the next bill.

I had someone approach me regarding my natural gas supplier *while I was mowing the yard*. Same spiel, wanted to see my bill to help save me money. I told him that a) I wasn't interested, and, b) I just started to mow the yard and don't plan on stopping to talk to him, but if he wanted to wait an hour or so until I'm done, we can talk. I didn't think about it at the time but I guess he could have called my bluff and waited, but he didn't.

Another thing I despise is that my city gets the bright idea to aggregate electricity supply purchases and you have to opt-out to stay with your current supplier. I tried it once, and, surprise, surprise, my costs went up despite the city saying we should see a reduction. Ever since then, I've made sure to watch my mail to opt out of future opportunities.

Bunk.

Someone at your door? NOPE. Yes a scam.

As far as solar panel sales down here, I just tell them that I just want to run one thing, with battery backup.
My A/C unit.

Oh, we can't do that. Is always the answer. And they go away.
They just want the real estate (roof) and net metering. Toal scam here.

The local TV news was just reporting on a similar scam last week. This version had someone claiming to be with the power company showing up at people's doors saying they needed to check something in their houses. The actual power company said that wasn't us, we don't just show up like that, and it's a scam.

Almost as pushy as the pest control people that cold call a couple of times a year . Legitimate company , but I'm not interested . You have to shut the door in their face to end the conversation .

The biggest thing that screams scam to me is the pushy-ness. Once they try scare tactics, that's it. Next is promise of a refund. Yeah - if you were eligible they would credit your statement.

There is a current scam going on here. A text appears saying there is a package that was held back at a couriers office because the postal code ( as in ZIP code ) is not complete. They need an small extra charge and want you to fill in the credit card details to cover the charge. Bingo, you just bought some scammer a TV in India.

This is an oldie. A friggen text..............hahahahahaha

Yes.
In Ohio people are free to pick any supplier, so I got some of that solication as well. My 2cents is, if they truly have an ultra-low rate, they won't need sending salesperson door to door begging for adoption.
You should be able to find rate comparison websites that offer a list of suppliers to choose. But if your electricity is aggregated, that will usually be the best deal.

I get this nonsense at least once a month .

Think of it, if you overpaid, the company owes you money, and they are so happy of the idea they have to pay it back to you they sent an employee to your door to tell you that? And the guy didn't have your account number, your name, last bill details? But he's sure his company needs to give you money?

I detest solar panel salespeople who persistently visit my doorstep about four to five times a year. Their pushy nature sometimes angers me. I’ve been contemplating creating a sign that reads, “No Solar Panel Salespeople!”
I put up a nice fancy "No Soliciting" sign in our yard. So now, if anyone comes to the door, I ask them if they can read. If they say yes, then I said, "oh, then you're stupid because if you could read, you'd see it says No Soliciting and yet, here you are, soliciting. I don't buy products from people that are stupid and incompetent so it's an automatic no at this point. Kthxbai."
