Thoughts?

Slipping from damage/wear, or user error. These wrenches have a reversing lever on them. I was using it to re-attach a door, so had to use it in that configuration, lever towards the bolt/washer. It doesn’t slip in the reverse direction. It does seem to be only some teeth.

If the bolt/washer was somehow pressing on the lever, could that cause a slip? That’s my only guess. I don’t know that I’ve used this wrench THAT hard, though 13mm is my most common wrench.

Thoughts?

Is this on your 1996? If so a 1/2 might fit just a bit better since it’s domestic. The 13mm looked a bit loose while slipping. Just a thought it could be metric but I know my older domestics are mainly SAE.

Quite possibly. But I don’t have a 1/2” ratchet wrench. If they hadn’t come out easily indefinitely would have stopped and bought one.

Snap on will either replace the gear inside or replace the whole thing for no charge
We can hope. I have no idea where any record of sale might be. I know the truck comes around the shops. Y me on Wednesdays...

ive heard that SO customer service isn’t all its cracked up to be...

Don’t even waste your time sending it directly to them. At least from my experience. Never gotten a warranty accepted that way then they wanted to charge to send the tool back. I sent in a 14mm wrench and they said oh this appears it may have been modified so we won’t accept the warranty. So then I finally got it back and found a rep that would warranty it. So definitely correct it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

I think your wrench is bad. I heard a few times as well that their CS is better for some than others. Meaning it depends on the dealer and if you know him or not. IMO the best thing to do is either call SO directly or make a friend with someone in a shop that deals with a SO guy and let him warranty it. I currently have two friends who deal with a SO guy on a regular basis, if one of my SO tools is bad, I can have them handle it for me. In all honesty if I didn't know them I probably would have passed on my recent SO buys.

You don't need a receipt, track down a truck and the guy will fix or replace the tool, been my experience anyway.

Agreed. I mean the guy comes here every week or two anyway, but he fixes things pretty much every time. My guys go through T10 bits like water, I have no idea why, I swear he has put a new bit in the chrome part at least 50 times

I believe AutoMechanic meant "use a 1/2" SAE size" rather than a 13mm.

And yes, as everything on the truck is SAE, it's just the engine that's metric.

And get yourself a 1/2" ratchet & torque wrench if you plan to do anything on the bottom end & suspension.

Unfortunately I dont have SAE ratchet wrenches. I do have a decent 1/2” regular and impact collection, and a torque wrench.,. Ive done a lot of suspension work like ball joints, shocks, etc.
