Potential future car

I currently have a 2022 wrx that I really love. I do put payments on it but I'm way ahead as I pay double almost every month. I like the relatively grounded/raw feeling over my previous car (mk6 jetta sportwagen tdi 6mt). I also am liking AWD but rwd is also an option. I just don't want fwd. 6mt is mandatory. But part of me feels like I want something MORE of a toy, even though this is my daily driver (wife's car is a 2024 kia seltos for travel/dogs, etc).

Couple of ideas are: Mustang GT, ND3 Miata, GR86/BRZ w/ brembos.

I want something that is preferably under 40k is buying CPO or new. Relatively reliable and can take light modding like exhaust, short shifters. And I love how the v8 sounds in the mustang so that's a huge plus.

Any recommendations or advice? Advice can include "you really like/ love your wrx, financially smarter to keep it."
 
Staying under 40k I'm not so sure there would be much more of an upgrade, just a lateral move.
That's what I'm afraid of. I don't even think I can swing a Mustang GT for that. And I'm not doing the ecoboost.

I'd probably do better with a conservative tune on the wrx and some wheels/tires.
 
Motorcycle? The thrill of two wheels is in a totally higher league than sports cars, if you can stomach the danger part. I’m only suggesting because maybe it wouldn’t be your DD.
Since getting into bikes, the thrill of 4 wheels aren't as appealing as they used to be.
Besides, the cost of a decent bike is a fraction than that of a car with similar performance numbers!
 
There are a few new 2024 Mustang GT's with a 6 speed under $40K if you look on Autotrader. The Mustang GT is a rocket ship compared to your WRX. It has 480 HP. I don't care what anyone says, sports cars handle better and brake shorter than a sports bike.
 
Buddy's Little Bro, when her got out of the Army a year or so back, Sold my old Neon, bought a GT86 ( actually a year before he got out, the 86 sat at my buddy's house for a year.) when he got out, and actually started Driving it, Didn't like it, traded it in on a a Kia Stinger. so far he seems to really like it....
 
An F-Type is not for everybody, but they are silly fun, all aluminum, have great engines, the fantastic ZF 8 speed with 200ms shifts, and very low mile versions are available for half of new. The later V8 versions are AWD. There are manual 6 speed versions too, but rare.

Mine is the 2017 V6 "S" version with the big brakes, adj suspension and upgraded seats. I put the Velocity tune on it, and also purchased the pulleys for 475/555HP (on E85) but decided that the pulleys were really not necessary once the tune was on. In stock form, it will reach the electronic limiter 171MPH, and rumor has it that the tune brings it into the 180+ range.

If you take highway trips, the Mustang GT is one of my favorites as I do rent 'em regularly. They are comfortable, quiet, and very capable. I'd take a GT over a luxury rental as I find the Mustang much more pleasant. Open interstate or back roads, the Mustang GT is always superb. One thing though, the manual trans is madeinchina and it shows.

That depends on the car and the bike, and the driver and rider in question.

It takes more skill to get the best from a bike. Very few riders have the skill to get the best from a bike.

Eventually, the best racecars will beat the best racebikes. Mostly because of the better traction of the racecars.

True. Nor can you (or should you) ride on the street that way either. I used to roadrace sportbikes and was WERA numbered, but NEVER rode that way on the surface streets or highways. One thing that used to irritate the life out of my track riding buddies was that skilled riding on a small bike was way faster than a mediocre skilled rider on a big bore. For that reason I didn't usually ride much of anything bigger than 600cc for the street. Had lots more fun too. But again, save the racing for the track. That said, skip the bike and find you an Ariel Atom. You'll put a permanent grin on your face if you do and will kick rocks at ANY Mustang GT 😁.

My 250cc little Honda CBR250R was more fun to ride than any car I have ever driven. No car can replicate leaning into a corner sheer thrill. Like riding the horse or sitting in the wagon. One’s way more fun than the other. Only gave it up because it’s too dangerous.
 
Its your money and you can do whatever you want but IMO it is a bad financial decision to buy a new car, pay if off extra fast just to trade it in for something different. You're going to take a big depreciation hit every time.

Since you like the WRX and just want something a bit sportier...have you thought of aftermarket upgrades? The WRX has a huge aftermarket support for performance parts. Everything from horsepower to handling and everything in between. Most of it is DIY too.

Then get a tune and you'll have a completely different car. It can be both a daily driver and a toy.
