Did you ever check the balance shaft? I can hear mine on our blazer, only at a relatively low idle with engine warm, rev it up a little and the noise goes away.
Not as loud as a lifter tick, more of a "resonance" type sound.
Engine stethoscope/pipe will help locate that type noise,,,,I can't hear it outside the engine bay with open ears, only when I'm in the cab.
I don't think this noise would change with a different oil level...that would point more to a lower engine noise- crankshaft related. The noise I am describing is higher in the block.
Did you try swapping filters back and forth? A=>B=>A?
Any additional oil lines would add some additional resistance to oil flow, but should be very small in comparison to the resistances of the engine overall, (as long as they are not partially blocked somehow anyway)..
