Post your Plans for America’s 250th Anniversary July 4

Going down to the farm tomorrow, boys needs to mow and might dig up some stumps. The fireworks is insane and dangerous around here so want to get out of the city. Swimming at a lake Friday. Saturday kicking up my feet while my wife and kids serve me on my birthday, LOL you know that won't happen.

The same as any other 4th of July, nothing special. It's a shame the crass Barnum & Bailey treatment the occasion is receiving on the national level is detracting from the achievement.

And before anyone gets bent over my comment I'll bet the number of citizens who enjoy the traditional parades and events is much higher than those who enjoy some of the less than mainstream events conducted.

^^Which City Hall is that?^^

We're having a small cookout at a relatives.

Four days later, the 8th of July, I'll reminisce that date's 50th anniversary.
'Twas on that date in 1976 I began a 2.5 month trip around this great country of ours.
My journey started with 2 chemistry classemates of my sister. I spotted them on the Palisades in Weehawken, N.J. 4 days earlier.
That was THE PLACE to watch Op-Sail, a big navel show. One of the girls just bought a '76 VW Rabbit.
Out to Buffalo, N.Y., around the Great Lakes, westward into Manitoba then south through the Dakotas.
I could go on. It took 3,600 miles to get to Salt Lake (where the VW owner's boyfriend lived).
After that, a bus, a train, a vintage Mustang and other cars, hitchhiking and a bummed ride in a church van to Yosemite where I climbed Half Dome.
The clinker was a plane ride from Dallas to Atlanta. A pal in Dallas and I were going to drive to ATL...but he got all lonesome (and time sensitive) because his fiance' was pining away up North. It destroyed my finances.

No Fouth has come close since.

I was five when the bicentennial was a big thing back in 1976. I remember seeing all the flags and red white and blue everywhere for weeks. My nursery school graduation was all about it. I still like collecting bicentennial quarters.

This year, I'm not doing much beyond staying inside away from the heat.

I turned 7 in 1976. I agree that summer was full of red, white, and blue everywhere. Including all the Bomb Pops I ate.:)
