post your latest transmission lubricant change.

2025 F150 Hybrid - 9782 miles

Out/In Just a smidge over 5qts of Motorcraft ULV and 5 oz of Lubegard platinum.

I do a D&F every other OCI with my 10R80's. Way I figure that's just about the same as a pan drop and fill every 30k.

Wow that's an early change, but I can't blame you. Good call on the LG platinum as well. Is the D/F fairly easy on the 10R80?

No.

Lol, When I had the Ranger I had a PPE pan and a bespoke aftermarket dipstick that someone on the Ranger forum designed and manufactured just for the 10R80 in that truck and changes were a breeze.

This truck, notsomuch. Just like pretty much all of them, you have to suck out the fluid, refill, and then check the level with a scorching hot cat right beside the little short dipstick.

Now that I know the level is right, future changes will be suck out and refill with the same amount, and I won't bother going through the headache (burns) of checking it.

Even more good on you then! I see things haven't changed much, my 2010 with the 6R80 had the short dipstick that was neighbors with the cat.

Yea, and I don't even have the option of buying a new pan. The 10R80MHT is different from the regular 10R80 in that the pan is different and there are fluid tubes running through it, so as of yet, no one makes a replacement with a drain plug.

I added the auxiliary transmission cooler that Toyota removed somewhere around 2020 I believe. I used the OEM x-pipe thing that routes the cooler lines through the core support. I used an AM oem replacement cooler (and yes, my fat hands bent some ot the fins)for $37 vs the $200+ for the oem unit, and 3/8 transmission line with spring clamps. I really contemplated using a larger universal cooler, but I wanted to keep it OEM-ish. I also added a knock-off Magnefine filter on the return. Flushed the transmission and reset the level using Valvoline Extended Protection and 1 bottle of LubeGard red then reset the transmission adaptation . These trucks have weird shifting characteristics. If anyone has owned one, you will understand what I mean. My biggest complaint was when moving at low speeds, stop and go traffic etc, while rolling or coasting and tipping back into the the throttle, it was not smooth at all. Almost like someone driving a manual who doesn't know how to drive. I've put about 200 miles of mixed driving on it and am very happy so far. Shifts are smoother and not as awkward to drive.

While I was at it I added another filter to the P/S return and replaced the fluid with LubeGard Synthetic.

Don't worry about the fat hands, getting older and my hands won't do the things as well as they used to, might as well have fat hands, lol.
you can straighten those fins out with a small flat screw driver, if you have some patience and a light touch.

EZ to find Neutral, little to NO 1st gear CLUNK and Buttery smooth shifts... GOOD STUFF!

2015 Mazda 5 2.5L. Just over 200,000 miles.
Pumped 2 quarts out the dipstick and replaced with Amsoil ATF. I should have done this one more time this year, but, never got 'round to it. Doing it twice basically equates to a less-messy drain and refill. Now winter is a day or two away, so, will let it go till next spring.

I thought about that also. I'm not sure if I have the patience to do so right now lol The fins on the p/s cooler on my Jeep were all bent, and I spent the time to go through the entire thing making it straight and pretty. Next time I looked at it they were all bent again from road debris lol Terrible design, there is zero grille or an type of protection over it. I ended up sticking a piece of gutter guard in there to give some protection.

Does it have a drain plug? I installed Dorman pans while changing the filter on my last two vehicles. They have a drain plug which makes things SO much easier. I pretty much drain into jugs, and then refill with the same amount that came out each fall. Just keeps things fresh.

It does have a drain plug. It is behind the splash shield. Pumping out the top only takes about 20 minutes for a nice little refresher with no {intentional} mess and no extra opening up of the system. It holds 8.3 or 8.5 quarts... I don't remember which. So the effort does just over 20% from the top. The drain and fill is about 3.5 quarts.

I thought these were the ones with the fill / check on the side? Maybe older trucks?

2024 Tacoma Hybrid. Inconsistent shifts. Sometimes buttery. Other times it’s Jeckyl and Hyde rough or confused or late. Advised to check fluid level. Vehicle sat overnight. Drained out 4 quarts. Amsoil Fuel Efficient Signature Series went in. After the excess was drained out, it held about 1.5 quarts more than had come out. It’s much better. Smooth. Most of the shifts have become seamless. 1-2 is sometimes lumpy when cold. Reverse hasn’t “banged” once into gear since then, though it has had one harder shift in the last 2 weeks. 11k miles. The fluid that came out was absolutely clear of any debris - spotless, but it was clearly low.

2016 Subaru Forester 2.5L, 113k miles. Bought used about 4 years ago; I assume fluid had never been changed. Car drove fine, but knowing the history of Subaru CVTs, about a month ago, I decided a drain and fill was in order. At that time, I drained and refilled with 5 quarts of Valvoline Full Synthetic CVT Fluid. Drove for a month with that. Yesterday, I repeated the process, once again with 5 qts drained, 5 qts replaced, increasing the ratio of old to new fluid. I thought about dropping the pan, replacing the screen/filter and cleaning the magnet, but decided to see how it went without doing that. Maybe next time. We'll see long term, but today the CVT was very smooth with no hesitation whatsoever. Fingers crossed.

In: Valvoline Maxlife Full Synthetic ATF

Double drain and fill. Was very dark on first drain. Overfilled on first drain and fill by a litre (5L), started vehicle, shifted gears and just drained fluid. Fluid was better coloured. 4L on second fill. Started vehicle and went through level/temp procedure. Fluid nice and clear red. Shifts perfect. Sorry, forgot to take pictures.
