post your latest transmission lubricant change.

2017 Elantra

Out: OEM
In: Amsoil ATL
Interval: 51k miles

Drain and fill of a little under 4 quarts.
Just wanted to add a follow up to this. We just completed a 2700 mile round-trip vacation driving west up through the mountains in Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho. The transmission worked flawlessly. I'll continue with Amsoil in the future, since it's anywhere from $4-$5 cheaper per quart.

Back on February 25th of this year I did a complete fluid change with a line flush and new filter. Filled with Toyota WS fluid. The Camry had 80K miles on it and probably never had any xmission maintenance. Afterwards, I had three instances of flare on the 2-3 shift when cold, but that stopped and in the ensuing time and about 3,000 miles, the trans has behaved flawlessly, both around town and on long, multi-hundred-mile highway trips, cold or hot.

2015 Ecoboost Escape 52158 miles

Out: Motorcraft LV transmission fluid

In: Ravenol LV transmission fluid

My 2007 Ford Fusion has 275K with 30-40K OCIs with M1 ATF in the trans. This is the only ATF I have used in this trans. The Trans still up shifts and down shifts like new.

Out: 3 Qts of M1 ATF

Chev 6L90 in my 2008 3/4 Burb. Dropped the pan, cleaned the magnet and changed the filter. Filled wth 6 litres AC Delco Dexron 6. The pan was very clean with only a bit of debris. On this 3/4 ton I was able to pull the pan without interference of the exhaust cross over. About 215,000 miles. Original transmission and torque converter. Was doing a pan drop and flush every 50,000 miles at dealer until 150,000 miles, then pulling 3 quarts and replacing once per year last several years. First pan drop in 5 years. I did the work at U Wrench in Calgary using one of their rental hoists. One photo shows where the dipstick comes out and the plastic filter assembly to the right of it. Enjoy.

Looks like your annual partial replacements were doing a good job of keeping it fairly fresh looking. Was 3 quarts all you could pump out?
Normally 3. Once I got surprised and pulled 4. I used a 3/8 OD plastic tube inside the dipstick tube. There’s nothing to keep the tube from reaching the bottom of the pan unless the natural curvature causes it to hit the filter.

One more observation is that the normal curved seal pulling tool is too large to get it inside the seal. I had to use a two pronged curved end tool to lift one side of the seal to bend it and pull it out. I used a socket and hammer to tap in the new seal. It was a little tuffer than other transmissions I’ve done.

JWS 3309 certified fluids in the ram at 40k, second change. Not excited about the 60k service.
Redline D4 in the transfer case today.

2015 Nissan Altima S, 147K, 34K OCI
Out: 4 qt Nissan, Castrol, Valvoline
In: 3 qt Valvoline, 1 qt Castrol mini Frankenbrew

This Altima was a high mileage, abused Hertz rental. I 1st serviced the teansmission at about 80K; it was nasty.
I have always used Valvoline or Castrol CVT fluid with excellent results.

I purchased a trans dipstick off Ebay for like $15. 4 quarts fill seems perfect. And put the dipstick tube cap on 180* out. There is no reason to lock it in the metal tab. Stupid design.
Do it.

2011 Dodge Avenger 62TE, 97000 miles. Original Mopar ATF+4 out, 5 litres Mopar ATF+4 in. Wix filter, Felpro gasket. Found 6 quart bottles delivered for $37.00 on amazon. Swapped out remaining fluid into power steering.

If it's sitting on a magnet it's likely iron.
That makes sense.

1985 Mazda RX-7, 5-speed manual, 137k Miles
In: Redline MT-90 75w-90 synthetic, a little under 3 qts
In case anyone with a RX-7 sees this post, it was closer to 2 quarts once I did the trick of lowering the jack and sitting the car level on the ground with the fill plug open and letting some of the excess out.

Mini Cooper R56 LCI 2012 6-speed manual ~50.000 km

Changed transmission oil yesterday on the Cooper. Second change in its life.
Factory fill: BMW MTF LT-4 75W-90 GL-4
Second fill at ~30.000 km: Ravenol MTF-2 75W-80 GL-4
Third fill at ~50.000 km:

~48 % Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 GL-4
~48 % Castrol Syntrans V-FE 75W-80 GL-4+

I couldn't resist to add a tiny bit of Eurol Engine Treat and Mannol Ester Additive I had laying around, less than half of what's recommended though. BMW says this GS6-55BG/Getrag 6MTT170 gearbox takes 1,7 l, however I succeeded to fill in appreciably more than two liters, just about 2,2 - 2,3 l in total. I would have prefered using some Castrol 75W-85 GL-4 but it isn't available in Europe except in 208 l drums.
On this occasion I flushed the transmission with some cheaper 75W-80 GL-4 and then put in a magnetic drain plug. Shift feel has been good with the original fill as well as with Ravenol and seems excellent with Castrol so far. Since this car is mainly used for commuting in town and on short trips and it doesn't see any excessive temps above +30°C at all I think it's acceptable using one step thinner gear oil.
Btw., I use to use a clear vinyl tube and a funnel for filling from above the engine bay. It's pretty tight on that Mini!

On a side note, while BMW specs 1.7 l for the Cooper (GS6-55BG) and 1,9 l for MCS and JCW (GS6-53BG), I managed to fill ~2.2 l into my gearbox with the car sitting level on the lift until the oil began to overflow out of the fill hole.

I'll report about my latest experience wrt to gear oil on a Mini here since it may be relevant to
others.
I changed gear oil last week. 2012 Mini (Justa) R56 Cooper N16 engine and GS6-55BG manual
transmission. About 50,000 km/31kmls on the car, 15,000 km on oil. The factory fill BMW MTF
LT-4 has been replaced at 35,000 km.
Had Ravenol MTF-2 before, 50/50 mix Castrol Syntrans V-FE 75W-80 and Castrol Multivehicle
75W-90 went in, along with small slucks of both Mannol Ester Additive and Eurol Engine Treat.
Remember Castrol Syntrans V-FE is doing great in my GTI.
After running with this fill for 2000 km I feel disillusioned. I can't assess wear, but I can for shift
quality and that went worse. Shifting both cool and hot has been clearly better with both BMW
MTF LT-4 and Ravenol MTF-2.
I'm debating which oil to use next now. Currently I tend to just return to either BMW MTF LT-2
or Ravenol MTF-2 since they both felt excellent, or a combination of both.

So after five weeks I finally took the chance to change the gear oil another time and replaced the Castrol Syntrans V-FE/Multivehicle/Engine Treat/Ester Additive mixture with OE BMW MTF LT-4 75W-90 exclusively. On occasion I also added a second magnetic drain plug. Feels excellent so far, noticeably better than before, but I'll comment later after I have driven a couple of hundred miles with it.
