Post your latest small engine oil change

I figured it was time to have oil weight reflect typical use time of year temps. The B&S engine has "just check and add oil" on the sticker. Yeah - no thanks! For someone else's OPE, sure. Not mine!

Changed the oil to the winter weight I like to run in my quiet 2300w Yamaha clone generator. Been a good little chinese clone (WEN 2350) for the last 3 years. I have 680hrs on it so far with oil changes every 35 to 40 hours.

Out - Mobil 1 15w50 "race"
In - Mobil 1 0w40 "euro"

Idk if this helped, but it made me feel better. The first 5 oil changes I did at 15min, 30min, 1h, 2h, 5hr.....the oil was drained into mason jars and the first 3 or 4 looked knarly.

Picked up an old Craftsman snowblower for $75 to use after we got 12”+ of snow a couple weeks ago. It needs a few things, but I’ve already used it and seems to run/work pretty well. Now to figure out what model Tecumseh it is so I can replace the weeping gaskets on it.

Out: very black unknown oil

Genmax GM7500iAED generator with 1.4 hours on it. This is the first oil change on this brand new generator. There was a good bit of glitter in the oil, I’ll be doing several more short oil changes with the 10w30 Supertech I bought for it. After I feel like it’s well broken in I may put some Rotella T6 5w40 or T4 15w40 in it. It only holds about 28oz of oil.

Out: The 10w30 oil it came with in the box.
In: Conventional Supertech 10w30.

I love the old engines/OPE! I haven't restored one in about 10 years but they are fun projects.

Look for the model number under the engine cover, and you should be able to find everything you need; I found the Weingartz search function to be very good as long as you have the model. And the OPE section at mytractorforum.com is a great resource for anyone interested in restoring old stuff.

You list your location as "Southeast" but we see snow in your first picture. Perhaps sticking with the recommended 10w-30 or bumping it up the the 5w-40 RT6 is the way to go. 15w-40 may be a bridge too far if you need it to start easily in the winter. At present both of my generators have 5w-40 RT6 in the sump and the temperature ranges from 0-100F where I live. It seems to me that most generator use occurs in the twenties (ice storms) or in the upper eighties and nineties (thunderstorms.) It is entirely possible that your situation may be different if you are in a remote area.

Found a fuel leak on the fuel shutoff lever. Looks like I’m going with a gasket replacement kit or just a new carb. We will see.
