I got this mower for free off some guy, it's only 3 months old, the whole fuel system was full of water so I cleaned that up, the oil was over full so I just drained it and replaced it with Delo 400 LE 5W40 still wouldn't start, the valve cover had been screwed with I could tell by the disturbed paint and the leaking gasket, it would kind of pop a little but wouldn't start, so I took of the valve cover and spun the motor over an eventually noticed the pushrod on the intake was definitely not straight, so I took off the rockers and in the process managed to loose the washer that the rocker pivots on. So after doing a number of thing having the head off a few times, at this point, I'm pretty sure it's good and it has compression, not much water got inside the motor despite the carb being completely primed with water, I didn't pay attention to the position of the rocker nuts when I undid them but I think the guy that had it before may have tightened it down to holly hell and caused the intake valve to bottom out before the cam reached full lift and that's why the pushrod bent because the valves seem nice and free. Should be able to get it back in business with a new head gasket, a new valve cover gasket, a push rod, and a couple adjuster nuts with for the rocker arms to replace the hardware that came with it which was just a nut and washer that has a rounded bottom for the rocker to pivot on versus what I've seen on some other similar motors where they use an adjuster nut that's like a single piece with the set screw in the middle.

I replaced the head gasket and a bent push rod, since I had the engine open and maybe wasn't the cleanest about it, I decided to run the engine until it ran out of fuel just to circulate the oil a bit and get it warm and then dumped it to get out contaminants that may have gotten in while I had the head off.

Also took the carb apart and cleaned it since it's never been cleaned before and the first two years it was run on straight 87 E10 pump gas, put it back together and put in some 93 Octane ethanol free gas with Techron Marine added, this is probably the last time this year I'll use this, and it may sit most of the time from now on since I got that self propelled mower that I fixed up.
