Agreed. I use ramps, I helped my Dad form and pour concrete for the pit at his place but we live on the coast so it's always full of water. Ramps are easier and faster than hooking up the pump to drain it. Yes, the pit has a lid but try as we may, we get a LOT of rain here 8 months a year.

Wow that filter location looks horrible! Does the oil run down across the steering components when you remove it?
Ford put a little built-in funnel under the filter, you can see it in the lower left of this pic:

If you’re patient and sloooooooowly loosen the filter, the little funnel does its job and directs the oil neatly into the drain pan. If you’re not patient, yes it goes everywhere and creates a large mess.
