Post your latest oil change

I did 2 oil changes last night and a transmission drain and fill.

Started the engine with the oil cap off and oil started raining over everything in the engine bay. Oops.

2017 Accord 2.4L 6MT, 4770 on oil, 126.2k on motor.
Out -CQP 84356, 4.5 qts of Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20.Had to add 1.5qts during the OCI, it was about 1/8 quart off the full mark.
In - Carquest Extended Performance P84356, 4.5 qts of Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20.

It dry/sunny with light breeze. Totally different than day before and forecast. Only issue was it was 30F. today and raining for the next week. I was going to wait until next week, I have a 200+ mile round trip this weekend that would have put me closer to my plan. My son is upstate and from sound of it, one of his CV joints/axles is on the way out. He has 600 miles to go to VA from where he is, 500 from my moms. So we are going to swap cars, he'll take mine to VA and then back at Christmas. I'd rather get his fixed up here at my shop than try a place he has no history with in VA. With trips minimum would be at least 1200 miles before I could get to it again. No concern on the oil handling that, I'm just trying to keep to the 5k's and not doing UOA on this one yet anyway.

So round 2 of Valvoline Restore and Protect is in. Filter I will try to leave for 2 and see how that looks when cut open. Filter should have no issues, me on the other hand....
2017 Accord 2.4L 6MT, 4800 on oil, 131k on motor.
Out - 4 qts of Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20.Had to add 1.5qts during the OCI, it was about 1/2 quart off the full mark so choice was add another 1/2 or change it.
In - 4.5 qts of Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20. The Carquest Extended Performance P84356 came off, got drained, refilled with about 6 ounces and re-installed. Hopefully the P style gasket stays happy.

Again for timing, it was 60F, sunny barely any breeze. That was changing in the afternoon and weekend plus unconfirmed driving plans. Round 3 of the Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20 in now, using the Carquest Extended Performance filter for a second interval.

I was about ½ quart down on oil this morning so was contemplating just topping off and continuing on. I was at 4800 miles of my normalish 5k plan but the unconfirmed plans may add 1000 miles. That still wouldn’t be an issue for the oil and MM, just my mental wellness. All my used oil fit in a gallon jug so definitely down 1/2 quart from full.

I’m still at a pretty consistent ½ quart top off every 1300 miles, so about 2qts every 5k to stay full. It’s been about that since I bought it 5.5 years and 82k miles ago.

Hopefully the VRP fixes your consumption. Do I understand correctly that your consumption hasn't changed at all yet with the VRP?

2023 Toyota Corolla cross hybrid
49998 miles on unit
10052 miles on this oil change interval
Interesting number the oil minder (that on these is not a straight up countdown ) had another 596 miles remaining so I had a week buffer if I was busy.
Average Mileage for the entire OCI was 47.6 mpg
Service 56 miles each way 5 days a week plus weekend incidentals.

Out Valvoline restore and protect 0w20 and a Toyota demos filter (good quality o ring not flat, sealed opening in box and o ring pre lubed

In Valvoline restore and protect 0w20 (4th fill) and a Carquest Extended Performance filter. This filter was high quality sealed and good o ring pics attached.

Cool facts,I pumped the oil as soon as I drove home after a 55 mile drive . Drained oil till, air was all I could, get a n 10 minutes, fasted ever and done a few with this pump. after I changed the filtered I tried pumping more out and was able to,feel out more with the tube and removed another half quart. So although dipstick didn’t change I was able to find a lower spot and get 4.9,qts,out as marked on the marks on the oil catch, that’s half a quart more than the factory manual says is needed Anyway I put 4.4 in ran it around the block to circulate and will top off in the morning based on dipstick.

Correct. This is now start of round 3 of Valvoline Restore and Protect.

My valvetrain area is spotless. My oil filter mount is clean and shiny. No clue on pistons, I haven't done a borescope....yet, not that I could see the rings anyway without disassembly and not planning for that.

PCV was changed at about 60k and again last year at I think 113k. It has had BG EPR, HPL Engine Cleaner 30, 1qt HPL PCEO 5w30 (used like EC30 multiple times). Oil has been Mobil 1 versions, Pennzoil Platinum versions, Delo XSP, Shell RGT, Valvoline Restore and Protect with viscosities of 0W-20, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40. Pretty much the same usage from all of the above.

If it it doesn't change any after 4-5 rounds, maybe more, I'll do a borescope in cylinders just to see. I think it's my driving style as I'm 6MT and it sees a lot of daily engine braking as I leave in gear even to stop signs etc. That puts more vacuum to pull oil through. Car runs great, normal highway cruise with traffic at 70+ mph gets high 30's mpg which = almost 600 miles on a tank.

Hang in there. Multiple reports of no change in oil burning, but the 4th change doing the trick. How long have you been burning? (Edit: I see now for about 82k miles.)

Do you get any blue smoke out the tailpipe any time?

It was in the third interval with Valvoline Restore and Protect where I saw consumption improve the most. And interestingly enough, after switching to ESP 0w-20, now that I’m on the second interval with it, I am seeing another significant improvement in consumption. Consumption is almost gone actually. I have only needed 100ml in 7000 km.

This is very similar to @GW. 's experience as well. Oil burning improved on the third and went back close to OE levels of burning after the 4th, and then her consumption continued to improve after switching to Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30, suspected due to lower Noack.

When I switched to ESP I really wasn’t expecting consumption to basically disappear like this. I was already happy with what Valvoline Restore and Protect accomplished and so having ESP do some more improvement was a huge bonus

It really is telling how well followed this site is. Today I had a break in my day so popped into Canadian Tire looking to pick up a jug I really don't need but thought I'd take advantage of the current rebate Mobil is offering.

Every gravity-feed-shelf was fully stocked with jugs, including Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 which has been very popular of late and often empty. There was tons of everything from all the usual brands. The one shelf that was completely empty and the one I was after?? ESP 0W-30. So I left. The same was true when their 0W-40 was the site darling for a while. I blame BITOG for me getting shut out today on the ESP 0W-30😁

Well, I did the first oil change on the new to me 98 Subaru Legacy Wagon since I am questioning the exact date the previous owner did the oil change. Since it has the bulletproof EJ22, I went with SuperTech 5W-30 High Mileage Full Synthetic. I went with an Mobil 1 oil filter as my local Wal-Mart was sparse on any other filter brands.

No smoke that I have seen even in the headlights behind me at night. Only evidence of anything is some black soot that builds very slowly on the chrome of exhaust tailpipe.

Yup hanging in. No reason not to keep using Valvoline Restore and Protect in my change intervals. I think I still have 7-8 Valvoline Restore and Protect jugs between the 0W-20 and 5W-30. Not the end of the world as it's habit for me to check every time I buy gas. Not a hassle, just a normal procedure. 1 quart in back of car or I'll respective amount needed when I get home from garage. I don't let it get to low mark, never have with any other cars either.
