Out/Off: Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W20 and a Fram TG2

In/On: Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W30 and a Carquest Premium 85372

I’m moving away from Fram due to some quality concerns. The Carquest Premiums posted here seem to be good quality, so that’s the route I’m going for now. The 85372 looked and felt solid.

A few pictures, which includes a snapshot of the inside of the Oil Filter Adapter.

Hi guys, thought I’d report back and say that the Mobil 1 Extended Performance High Mileage has decreased the oil burning to a measured 900 miles / QT, on the dot. It’s hard to say exactly how much of an improvement this constitutes, since the oil burning was so inconsistent before (short versus long trips perhaps, amongst other variables) but I’m confident that this represents at the bare minimum an immediate 20% improvement. I may not have this vehicle long enough to warrant 4 changes of Valvoline Restore and Protect, so very happy to get something that made an immediate difference.

However, there was an old post on BITOG from a guy who’s company had a fleet of these and supposedly the half of the fleet running 10W-30 failed (an approved grade but the engines didn’t like them.) I wonder if this stuff is ultimately good for it, since it is so thick.
Why mess around with this and not just use Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30? It's the same price or cheaper. It's proven to reduce or cure oil burning if you have stuck rings.

Still a very firm believer that the Supertech cartridge filters are very hard to beat. Quality has been excellent and they are very cheap. Typically try for 5k OCIs but lately been closer to 6-7k, but still does not use or lose enough during an interval to ever have to add any oil.

Replaced a bad NOX sensor last week and have been averaging about 45mpg and seen as high as 58 on the highway doing 79mph. It's a perfect little commuter car.

2008 CRV with 252k mile. 4900 miles on the oil. 100 miles shy of my planned 5k interval but it was 40F, partly sunny, I had time, and she might go visit friends this week.

Out - 5qts Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20
In - 3.75qts Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20 and .75qt of Mobil 1 plain triple action 5W-30. Used up 2 open qts so I didn't need to open a 5qt jug.
Filter off- Honda Filtech A01.
Filter on - my last one from @researcher, Honda Filtech A01,.

This is the first time I saw some oil drip under the car. It looks like it was coming from filter gasket possibly. I did drain and re-use that filter after 900 miles last time. Maybe the gasket didn't like being re-compressed? The filter was on tight, I used my filter cap to loosen it. Also notice the paint scraped off where it contacted. The gasket is not that thick or far from edge when I look at it. I never had an issue before but also never drained/re-used a filter before. All cleaned up with brake cleaner after so we'll see what next change brings. No oil was added over the 4900 miles and it was still at full mark.

There are those that suggest it’s ok to use a 10K to 20K mile rated oil filter for two 5K OCI’s - just just leave it in place. Removing the oil filter then re-installing it can result in oil leaks.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W20 mopar filter...my 3.6 takes 5 qts and this is what I get out so pretty dang close to what I put in :) the sharpie mark was the full jug and I always have a little spillage pulling the drain plug as the oil stream overshoots the opening in my skid plate. this change I installed a Fumoto so next time no spillage lol. 3700 miles on the change. I usually change between 3000-4000 miles as I run pretty hard with lots of offroading. Not much in the filter.
