That's a sweet benefit! What I'd give for a real lift sometimes...so I had my son change my oil on the hoist at the GM dealership where he works
I might just get my son to do this more often, it’s nice not having to crawl around on the ground, or worry about making a mess and disposing of the old oil. Plus I was the one who taught my son how to change oil when he was 16 and he’s now 24 and he’s probably done 30 or 40 oil changes on his own cars since then so I trust him completelyThat's a sweet benefit! What I'd give for a real lift sometimes...
No kidding about the salt. That Sierra in the background looks a little rough.
That’s great that they let detailers use the lifts. At my work that would get you fired. Good looking car too.I didn’t want to crawl around on the cold ground to change the oil in my Civic today so I had my son change my oil on the hoist at the GM dealership where he works (as a detailer)
Out: Mobil 1 ESP 0w-20
Carquest Premium filter
In: same as above
Miles on oil: 9,432
Total miles on the Civic: 184,722
Oil life monitor was at 15%
MPG this interval was 42.7
I was pleasantly surprised at how good the undercarriage of the car looks considering I have not used any rustproofing and they put down a lot of salt in the winter. I do get car washes 3-4 times a week in the winter though.

My son has been there for 3 or 4 years now and he’s the lead detailer and he is also a friendly young man and the owner and everyone else there get along well with him. He’s used the hoist there for working on his own cars many times. On Saturdays the service department is only open until noon but the rest of the dealership is open all day so it’s the perfect time to get stuff done back there without taking up a hoist that’s needed for a customerThat’s great that they let detailers use the lifts. That's a clean truck! I like that generation of Silverados. I think it's a timeless look.I might just get my son to do this more often, it’s nice not having to crawl around on the ground, or worry about making a mess and disposing of the old oil. He lives further north than me and it’s right in the snow belt so the winters up there are a bit longer, harsher and so a lot of trucks end up looking like that Sierra. My sons 2002 Silverado is in pretty mint condition though View attachment 319217
My son loves older vehicles more than new ones. Both of his vehicles are almost as old as him! He was born in 2001 and both his vehicles are 2002 models (his other one is a WRX) His dream car is a Datsun 240ZThat's a clean truck! I like that generation of Silverados. I think it's a timeless look.
In the winter I’ll extract the oil from the dip stick and leave the filter on. If it’s a nice weather change I’ll get on the ground.I didn’t want to crawl around on the cold ground to change the oil in my Civic today so I had my son change my oil on the hoist at the GM dealership where he works (as a detailer)

That’s a great idea but it wouldn’t work for me as that would require me to leave the oil filter on the Civic for a total of 20,000 milesIn the winter I’ll extract the oil from the dip stick and leave the filter on. If it’s a nice weather change I’ll get on the ground.
When I was selling my previous house years back, a young man came up in a 240Z with more rubber. He put a small block Chevy in the engine bay... Wow!My son loves older vehicles more than new ones. Same. I have a soft spot for old cars even though I can afford new ones. Makes a lot of financial sense, and it's satisfying to get more life out of something old.My son loves older vehicles more than new ones.
My son is a manager for a quick lube place. He moved out of town to manage a chain in another state a couple of years ago, but he was local for a couple of years before he moved. Man, was it nice to pull into his main store and get the 'family discount' (which means I stood there and yakked with him while his tech changed mine)I didn’t want to crawl around on the cold ground to change the oil in my Civic today so I had my son change my oil on the hoist at the GM dealership where he works (as a detailer)
