Last minute oci for my in-laws. 2018 CR-V 1.5T. 62.8k on car, don’t recall the mileage at last oil change. Didn’t have time to order Amsoil (as I did last time) so it got leftover oil & a Boss filter(as well as a new air filter).

Out: Amsoil SS 0/20 & Amsoil EA15k13 filter.

In: 1qt HPL EC30 & about 3qts PUP 5/30 with a Boss PBL14610(had an XG7317 on the shelf but my luck with the latest Fram XG’s hasn’t been good).

@Pablo

The Amsoil filter that came off has better construction than what I’ve been seeing as of late. The wire backing is metal & I had one heck of a time getting through it. Has metal crimp seam as well. I haven’t checked the date code yet(not memorized) & have a few other projects to get through today so will just post a pic here. I’ll likely start another thread in the filter section.

Who cares about the filter? Did like 70 gallons of fuel spill out like 212° F gas flavored water?

Hahahahhahahaahahaha sorry.

What?

This one is my in laws. They short trip the crap out of it so oil usually does stink like fuel but I’m not one on here bashing either the amsoil filters or the cr-v. Was more curious if you knew of any changes with Amsoil filter production. I’ve purchased Amsoil products for several years & always had good results, with a few adbv exceptions on a couple of the newer 15k filters. This one being a last minute didn’t get its Amsoil SS oil & filter this go around.

And I care about the filters used on vehicles I own or service. That’s why I cut open all the used filters and some new ones to check.

Oh sorry just a reaction to the multiple 2017+ CR-V fuel dilution threads. I didn't take it you were bashing anything.

How long did THEY go on the oil?

I care about filters to a point, but honestly and demonstrably the oil filter has a pretty wide performance bandwidth range. Your inlaws will be fine with the new "Boss".

What type of ADBV issues did you see/have?

I apologize no offense meant.

I’m not sure how many miles they have driven as I write it down in their records folder. I do know that I placed the order with Amsoil at the beginning of last November & they’ve only had that thing on the highway twice since then.

I did create a thread in the filter section so as not to go too far off topic here. Took a picture of the date code as well.

I’m generally more concerned with filter construction. This Amsoil unit most certainly has great construction. That’s also why I put a Boss filter on instead of the Fram XG that’s sitting on the bench. The Boss may not filter as well as an Amsoil or XG(that’s actually filtering & not tearing media) but it does have solid construction.

Edit as I forgot to reply to the adbv question.

I’ve had a couple not seal well when doing the “blow back” test. Not terrible with the amsoil but not what they used to be. Seems they changed the shape of the adbv a few years ago & matched the Fram Extended. That’s when I started noticing a unit here or there not sealing as well.

Forgot to mention - 0 oil consumption. So that's 11 years (I bought this car new, now my college-age son's car) on 5-8K OCIs using 20 grade oil, no oil consupmtion, no running issues, no drama. No M1 0W40 needed.

Not in the car I'm refering to.
I know ... bet you'd be using something thicker if it was beat hard. You could go thinner on your track cars for slightly lower oil temps, and more power ... until it spins a bearing and blows up. 😄

It is beat hard, a 20 yo that auto-crosses it drives it. 20 works, I see no reason to change it in this one.

2014 Grand Caravan AVP.
20 months 918 miles OCI, 36971 odo.
Out: 5 quarts Castrol Magnatec 0W20, 1 quart Supertech 0W20, made in china filter
In: 6 quarts Total Quartz 5W30 Long Life, Champ P1009XL filter

Ranch vehicle that is driven very infrequently, but putting on about 600 miles the next few weeks for several medical visits, Mom is getting cataracts removed. The engine sounds much better. I took a UOA sample for fun and will share.
