2016 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ 2.4L l4, 68,001 miles on Odometer.

Out/off: 5qts bulk 5W-30 dexos1, canister oil filter (whatever the local shop uses, didn't look).
OCI: Estimated around 7,000 miles, OLM at 6%.

In/on: 5qts Mobil 1 High Mileage 5W-30 (not dexos rated), M1C-151A filter.
Suggested OCI to owner: 5,000 miles.

Amazingly, did not consume any oil during the 7,000 miles (quite odd for this engine).

My prior calc for cumulative hours on the oil was a little off, and the oil was darker than I anticipated--changed it earlier. I'm very excited that I figured out how to pull out most of the oil from the sump with this thing finally. Given how much came out using my oil extractor, I'll run this for 140 hours. Intend on using the filter up to 15,000 total miles.

That is an interesting brew. Do you go heavy because the Texas heat or because of the Ecoboost in general? Or maybe both?

1. I know that it can handle >3.5 HTHS oil.
2. Now that the car has recently become one that short-trips, the fuel dilution of the sump is more aggravated, which brings its operating HTHS viscosity lower.
3. This brew is mainly to use up what I have left. I dont plan on doing mixes for it in the foreseeable future.

In: OEM filter, OEM washer, and new OEM drain bolt.

Had a very very slight drop off the drain bolt that was plugging itself, but I believe the washer I used was too hard, it was my old OEMs from mazda. When I took it off it has no deformity whatsoever even though I torqued correctly to spec. I think the threads on the pan are beat up. The first time threading the new bolt I had some resistance about half way thru (not cross threaded), I took it and out put some more oil on the threads and it smothed out. These new washers I definetly felt crush unlike the old.🤷‍♂️

This was 2nd change since I bought it used and I was expecting M1 to flush out years of bulk conventional out so expecting it to look bad but yikes. You might as well have taken what drained and put it in your gas tank. Gas smell was extremely strong, never experienced anything like this in my previous Mazda skyactiv. Granted 90% of my driving was plagued with short trips and straight city driving, especially due to covid.

No wonder why people are grenading these 2.4 engines going 7k short tripping doing the bare minimum maintenance. The severe interval is what everyone should be on. I will go by a straight 6 month interval (5k max) from now on.

Time for my first DIY change on Mongo. No consumption to speak of. 1K mile road trip to GA on this change plus some hard driving and fuel system addtives...no reason to push to 5K which would be the normal OCI. Got this car last Dec and the dealer had done a change before purchase with M1 0W40. Had my German-only shop do a ton of stuff to it shortly after purchase which necessitated an oil change and they use Liquimoly products.

I'm not in the US right now, my stepdad took her in today for my peace of mind. He doesn't trust other shops. I also didn't have enough PUP to have the dealer use it. I wanted to check my valve clearance (unsure if previous owner(s) did before I purchased her) during this oil change but that won't happen until I return to the US.
