At my previous job, we had a salesperson take a brand new 2016 F-150, 2.7 Ecoboost to 28k with no oil change. It wasn't down any oil, but crude black. I took it in for a change immediately and then personally drove the truck for 10k myself. It was a smoker after that change. Did a 2500, then a 5000 mile change, and it was fine after that. At 140k it started using oil, so it was sent off to the auction house.

The oil always seemed to turn black more quickly on that engine than any of the other trucks we had.

Similar story with a 2015 F150 and a 5.0 that went 23k from new to when we discovered the oil hadn't been changed. That truck is still in the fleet, running very well, with over 150k on it.

That's a crazy OCI also but as with most business/fleet vehicles "who cares about maintenance, It's not my car i own" but that Ford is a late model truck under warranty so covered either way unlike my 20 year old Suburban lol

For me it was a 911 emergency to change oil ASAP

I can't wait till August 1st when I change it again and pour in some "Free" M1 10W30

Now there's someone who doesn't live in fear of timing chain / tensioner issues on the Ford Mod. Definitely got your use out of that $2.60 a qt oil.

Yeah honestly we are thinking of retiring this Crown Vic here soon, as the rust is very bad underneath the car. Otherwise the engine is still running as good as it came from the police auction. We even used the Motorcraft Fl-820S oil filter for most of the car's oil changes. Funny considering how people hate that oil filter on these forums.

The FL-820S is actually thought quite highly of on here, in my opinion. It's the rest of the Motorcraft line that has shown to be susceptible to issues.
The FL 820 is the worst Motorcraft made.

OCI 3,976 miles, 24 mos.

Early change as truck was in the shop for rear main seal, front timing cover with front crank seal, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, oil filter adapter gasket & o'ring, oil cooler hoses, water pump, both engine mounts, transmission mount, and an A/C evacuate and recharge.

What was the bottom-line, final cost to the owner of what now-is a 22 year-old vehicle with almost 200k?

Did someone from the repair shop do the work there.... or you?

My 99' S10 was a lemon from 80K-on. At 145k, I finally got fed-up with all the repairs and gave the vehicle to a needy person on low income - that was walking four miles to work every day.

Repair was done at a Chevrolet dealer (girlfriend works there as a service writer). Parts were sold at her employee discount, as was labor. Still wasn't cheap, in for about $1,600. A week later the starter died, another $300. This was the first time the truck was torn into in it's life, and it did not like it. Transmission is shifting funny now.

David
Trans might just need a new filter and fluid. Mine did that - at about 95k. I drove it in 2nd gear-only for three miles to a repair shop. It cost me $99 for filter and fluid - then it shifted buttery-smooth from that day forward.

If I remember right and watching the work from 3 vehicle lengths away, I think the worker used six quarts of fluid. Not 100% sure.

Yeah, I think I have the part numbers mixed up. I'm not a Ford guy, but I thought there was a Motorcraft filter that was pretty well thought of- I'm just blanking on the part number for it.
