Notes: Since I am in for long miles, piston cleanliness and piston ring coking concern me.
The thicker Euro series oil with MB 229.51 spec will insure that. With availability at Walmart of a 5 quart jug for ~$24, this is good value, too.
I have decided that I cannot live with the
reduced performance from using Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w30 in my engine.
I am sure it would have kept the pistons and rings clean.
I will use Valvoline Restore if it becomes necessary from oil consumption.
Early drain.
Out: Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w30 3.5 HTHS.
In: Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w20. 2.6 HTHS. Final jug in my stash.
I see Castrol EDGE Professional LL IV FE 0W20 in my future.
Interesting. What vehicle were you using it in? The Euro L may be one of the cleanest oils going. I am considering it for my next fill, but my vehicle requires a minimum HTHS of 3.5 anyway (either VW 502 or 504).
My vehicle is a 2018 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder.
Oil consumption from carbon in the piston/ring area is the one issue.
I will drive it for hundreds of thousands of miles.
I would expect the Pennzoil Platinum Euro L to work very well in your Passat,
and it is an exceptional value.
