On 7/11/09, changed the oil in my Toyota Sequoia, 08, 5.7L, at 15,000 miles. Dealer had done it twice before, so I thought I'd give it a try. I used Valvoline conventional 5w20, bought in gallon jugs. I ran the car up on some 2X12's to get it up a little to help in removing the skid plate. I spilled about a quart when I took the plug out, the oil comes gushing out, and over ran the plastic drain pan! Took the plug out of the bottom of the oil canister and inserted plastic drain that comes with the oil filter. That part went ok. Took the canister off with a 65 mm oil filter wrench and that went ok. Removed old cartridge and inserted new on tube. Put new oring on and reinstalled the canister. It had a strange feeling to it when tightening. Put aprox. 6.5 quarts in and fired it up to check for leaks. By the time I got out and to the front end, about a quart of new oil had shot out of the oil filter housing! Tightened up some more and tried again with same results. Took the canister off and the oring was in shreds. Fished out the old oring and installed it correctly and tried again. No leaks. Checked the oil and it wouldn't touch bottom of dipstick. Poured what was left of the 2nd gallon and the level came up to half quart low. Wife drove it to grocery shop and when she returned, I popped the hood to verify the oil level and discovered I had left the filler cap off! Retraced to grocery to see if I could see it on the road....no luck. Went to dealer and bought new filler cap and installed. And there you have it! My last oil change! Or should I say, most recent oil change, because I bought an oil filter while I was at the dealer buying the cap, so I can try again in 5000 miles. I'm not whipped yet!
