5-7,500 will be fine…people hate on these filters for no reason, or run them way too long and hate on them for failing lolThis one ? Have it for next O.C. of the FIT . Not sure how long to run it . Maybe 7,500 miles . Oil may be new 0w-20 MOBIL AFE or EP ( SP, GF-6A ) .

I don't get it, why are car makers using cartridge filters, but then putting them in stupid places?22 Hyundai Palisade

Some of the new Smartstream engines actually have a drain plug on the cartridge housing, but I don't understand cartridges located under the vehicle like this that make a mess when removed.I don't get it, why are car makers using cartridge filters, but then putting them in stupid places?
My '18 Santa Fe has the cartridge filter on the top, super easy to get to, no mess at all.
The '19 Kia Sorento with the same 3.3 V6 has the filter housing moved to the underside using Hyundai's stupid multi piece cap (has a drain on it, which makes the cartridge more complicated than it needs to be).
Seems they take a step forward, then 2 more back.
Thanks, AdamGreat pictures![]()
Oh I agree, cartridge is nice for inspection. I have a pan with 8-9 canister filters in it to cut open and inspect.Other than being located at the bottom of the Palisade, this cartridge filter wasn't a difficult job. But I agree, canister filters are slightly more appealing to most due to less possibilities of something going wrong. But the ability to inspect cartrige filters trumps all else for me.
I agree. And if you want to talk about stupidity, there is the Fiat 500L's filter location. A cartridge design also but pain to get at, needing several wobbly extensions, two people, and turning the tire to get at.Oh I agree, cartridge is nice for inspection. The cartridge from my Santa Fe was inspected immediately.
I just think it is stupid where and how they put these cartridge filters on the underside on so many vehicles when they don't have to.
The one on the Palisaide does not look too bad though.
That still seems like a better design than some of the Toyota and Lexus ones I've seen.I don't get it, why are car makers using cartridge filters, but then putting them in stupid places?
