Any reason your OCI is under 3000.....while using a quality synthetic like PP. IMO, you could at least double the OCI mileage (6000) easily or go one year OCI's. Its a waste of quality oil and $$$.

2002 Subaru Outback H6 3.0 approx 111,500 miles

Out:
Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5w30 with NAPA Gold filter. 7000Ish miles, changed early due to worsening oil cooler gasket leak needing repair. Was down a quart and decided to repair and OCI rather than top up again.

In:
Castrol GTX High Mileage 5w30 with Purolater PureONE filter.

It's a 16, probably a warranty deal.

Warranty, Nissan says 6 months or 5000 miles. I use synthetic because I can get it almost as cheap as conventional due to the special sales.

Quite a viscosity jump there. 5w50 is the juice of Zeus IMO. Initial impressions? Did you have an mpg hit? I used 5w50 Castrol after M1 0w30 once. Was pleasantly surprised as the car did not have an MPG hit and felt smooth, without any sluggishness from higher viscosity. Valvoline 5w40 MST made that car (2006 Pontiac Vibe AWD) feel like I was towing an 18-wheeler, and engine lost 4mpg across the board. So definitely did not expect the 5w50 to perform as good as it did.

WOW, that is a lot of miles. I'm impressed.

It's less impressive when you convert km to miles.
601,503km is 373,757 (american) miles. Or just 60,150 swedish miles.

Nonetheless, it's still impressive. Good show.

I think you should stick with what you are doing. Keeping an older car with higher miles is nice, but if you have an older car with higher miles and it doesn't burn oil = you must be doing something right.

If you try extending it or putting additives or constantly changing things up and around you might give it an opportunity to burn oil. Then you would have ruined a beautiful thing.

I would change it every 6 months or 5000 miles which ever comes first.
