Had considered doing a Blackstone Labs analysis on this 9,000-mile run but not worth $50 since the original Ultra has been discontinued, and I have just one jug left for next year. Wish they hadn't discontinued this excellent oil. What will I use in 2 years: Red Line? What other oils are comparable to the original Ultra? I guess I can always go back to Amsoil. If you want to continue this convo, please use my other thread about the oil tech using a wrong drain plug gasket.

I had to change out both a little early. My oldest son is using the Corolla at his NASA internship in Cleveland and has returned several times to see his girlfriend, plus trips to his grandmother's house in NW Ohio. He's got four more weeks to go and at this pace he'd be near a 12,000 mile OCI.

Changed out the Subaru last weekend since my wife and daughter were going out to Nebraska to see friends and would have been over the 7,500 mile OCI by the time they returned.

5,500 miles on oil. I changed it now for two reasons.
1: 2nd change after head replacement
2: Several lengthy upcoming trips, don't want to deal with oil changes for 10k or so.

Also changed the fuel filter. Replaced with Wix filter.

Well, out with the Wix filter. Not sure, maybe was a bad one. But the oil pressure (mechanical gauge) was fluctuating about 8 psi at high frequency, like it had the jitters, any rpm, idle or going down the road under load. I pulled the Wix and spun a Motorcraft FL400s and it seems fine now, but the cold start will really tell because with the Wix it seemed to smooth out some after it warmed up. Still, should not have been that way. Maybe will have to send the Wix in for analysis.
