2012 GMC Canyon Vortec 2900
79.6k mi on vehicle
2980mi on oil
Hunting down an si intrusion so doing 2-3k OCI’s & sending in UOA to verify the air inlet system has been fixed. Also had my son do everything as this will be his vehicle by next month.

Out: Delo 400xsp 5W-40 & Napa Gold filter (gold filter had been in the bed toolbox for several years.)

In: Delo 400xsp 5W-40 & Amsoil filter

2018 VW Golf Sportwagen. 118,071 mi odo. 9,657 mile OCI. 3x track days on this fill with those hours (~4?) at ~270 deg F. 7x autocross, high RPM but only for less than 1 min per run, not enough to raise the temp much. Some consumption (~1 qt, seems to be about 1/4 qt/track day with minor amounts for auto crosses).

Out: 6 qts HPL Euro 5W40 + Mann filter.

In: 6 qts HPL Euro 5W40 + Mann filter.

Also changed the plugs (11,651 miles, I do them once per year) and fixed a coil pack hold-down, they strip easily so repaired with a Helicoil.

Samples sent to Blackstone/HPL. Info on my car/oil stuff here:

2018 Tacoma 3.5L TRD-Sport.
44.4k mi on the truck.
2.5k mi on the oil.

OUT: Dealership bulk 0w-20. The service receipts claim TGMO.
OFF: Whatever filter they use.
IN: Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 SN+. Two unopened 5-qt bottles have been sitting on the shelf in my shop for 6 years. 2019 copyright date.
ON: Fram Ultra XG9972. Has been sittting on shelf for 7 years. 2017 copyright date.

My shop is unheated, but the oil and filter looked fine. I immediately towed a 750 lbs, 5'x10' equipment trailer 320 mi round-trip after changing the oil, picking up 2500 lbs of lime at the halfway point. The engine didn't grenade on me, so I'm sure all is well. I also did both differentials and the transfer case at the same time.

This truck has mostly been dealership serviced since I bought it new. I did a single oil change at 5k mi without a filter swap, and the rear differential at 7k mi. The extended warranty just expired, so I figured I would start handling everything myself. The plan is to go ahead and change all fluids and filters now that the truck is 7 years old and close to 50k mi. I don't normally change my oil at 2.5k mi. I'm more of a 5 or 6k OCI kind of guy.

Here are some pics. I didn't think about taking a picture of the actual filter until it was already in the housing. I didn't want to pull it out and risk dirt intrusion.

Our '02 Grand Cherokee, 185k and counting:

Out - whatever frankenbrew was left in the sump and a twice-run XG16. Like most high mileage 4.7's, ours eats oil so I just keep it topped up with whatever I have lying around.

In - 4 quarts of Super Tech 5w-30 syn, a quart of Super Tech 10w-30 HM syn, topped up to level with a quart or so of leftover Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-30. Threw on the K&N Silver I had sitting on the shelf from one of my RA orders, should be plenty good for the annual 5k OCI's this thing gets.

Wow! Now that shows your confidence in HPL, an I bet your UOA will back you up! And those plugs look good! Only 11k on them?

I *hope* my used oil analysis and the test HPL is doing well back me up 🤣. If not, I'll just go back to a more typical 5K/twice a year change...no biggie I'm sure I didn't ruin my engine.

Plugs on these "tuned to the moon" VWs need to be changed regularly and I just have decided since I get them for free with the FCP Euro Lifetime Replacement Guarantee, why not be safe and go once/year/12K or so. These are high-performance 2x colder heat range and non-projected tips, gap is 0.020".

Out: Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w30/Fram Ultra filter
In: Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W20/Microgard Select filter

Burned about 1 quart on this OCI (no leak). Hoping Valvoline Restore and Protect can improve it. Went with 0W20 because the car seemed a hair sluggish with the thicker PUP but could be placebo.

I’ll keep a close eye on the dipstick to trace color and oil loss. I’m guessing my issue is minor enough that I can do a 5K OCI without overloading the filter.

Also topped off my battery with the Costco thingamajig. No idea if it really did anything the light was only on for about 15 minutes.
